This app actually made me pay attention to what the insurance company was trying to achieve. If you keep the speed under 80 and drive calm, it wasn't that hard to score excellent. My daughter scored great driving rush hour every day going to work and back. Luckily for me, my car is able to control all phone functions through controls on my steering wheel and I never had any of these actions count against me. During the 90 days we took a 4000 mile road trip through 11 states where I was nailed for 1 hard brake and 1 acceleration. If you accelerate at a constant pace, there shouldn't be a problem. If you jerk the car, there will. I believe the key point of this app is to put your phone in the glove compartment and don't touch it. If you are getting gas and use your phone, walk away from the car so you do not get dinged. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star is I do not think the insurance company needs to know all of my habits and where I travel. This is boarding invitation of privacy. PS There is always the option when someone else was "driving" the car, the trip may be erased.

Let me preface this by saying that I really did try to make this work for me and my driving patterns. I’m also not a young kid who likes to drive hard and fast. But this app is not great at improving driving performance. Not only do you get dinged for driving during normal rush hour times, you get dinged for accelerating to pass, accelerating to merge in busy traffic, braking during an emergent stop, and accelerating too fast when you actually didn’t accelerate too fast at all. Driving this cautiously can be hazardous in busy areas (I live near Seattle) where staying with the flow of traffic is beneficial and going too slow can be a detriment. I have even received negative marks for hard acceleration when nowhere on the individual drives does it say that I accelerated too hard. If you’re counting on this app to lower your insurance premium then beware. You can’t drive during normal business hours without a negative event, you can’t brake if you’re cut off because cause you’ve been driving too slow (because you also can’t speed even if everyone else around you is speeding) without an event, and you’ll get negative events without your app showing you where it was. But if you live somewhere where you can laze around town, then go for it. It’s perfectly suited for that.

I cannot believe that insurance companies are using apps like this to determine if you are a safe driver. It basically records 5 things and uses these to determine if you are a good driver. 1. Accelerated. It tries to determine if you accelerate too fast. If you accelerate to fast to get on a highway you get dinged 2. Breaking. If you break too hard. Like to avoid an accident you get dinged. 3. Distraction. If your passenger uses your phone you get dinged. Or if you are parked for a short time to pick up someone from say school and you text them. You get dinged. 4. High speed. It uses what is reported as the speed to determine if you are speeding. If your town doesn’t update that they increased the speed you get dinged. 5 time of day. If you drive to go to work you will get dinged every time for this. It doesn’t matter if you do not encounter any traffic. It is all based on the time. But wait. If you happened to have an event. You can change the status to say you are a passenger. So in essence you can lie about your driving if you have a bad trip. None of these apps actually determine if you are a good driver. Do you run red lights? Do you wear your seatbelt? Do you ride the car in front of you number? Do you swerve in and out of lanes? Most cars nowadays have these types of sensors that these companies can use to determine your driving patterns way better than a phone app that truly doesn’t work.

My agent kinda talked me into this app to save. Says you have X amount of days to try it and if it doesn’t work take it off and pay the difference. He wasn’t able to give me feedback from clients other than one guy hated it because he uses his phone a lot. Well first off I thought for sure I’d get dinged on “distraction”. So not the case. I’m actually pretty good as a matter of fact I’m great. I pick it up while at a light but beware because multiple times I put my phone down and it says I was on my phone so you gotta close all apps before putting your foot on the accelerator. If you depend on apps like maps or Waze do not at all pick up your phone to look or it’ll dock you. So interestingly distractions, speed, or hard breaking are not getting me. I’m in the great range there. Its acceleration but I maybe have seen it twice in my drives so not sure unless I go back to each individual one to figure out how many times this older mom has truly accelerated. What really gets me is the fact I work normal business hours. I start my day off at 7:25 to take kids to school and leave work at 5:00. I went from great to good in just 27 days and not just mid grade good but touching yellow good so I have to rethink this stupid app or get a job where I can go in after the morning rush.
