I’ve been on InPen for a little over a year now, coming from a pump after my last DKA episode. Love this app for the most part, but there’s just a couple things I’d like to see changed. As another reviewer stated, being able to retroactively enter blood sugars would be great. The only other thing I’d like to see is a slight tweak to the BG reminder. I love having that because it ensures I check more frequently, but say for example I look at the app and it’s been 1h 50m since my last injection. I go ahead and test, put that in the app, and do what it says. Why does the 2 hour reminder still show up 10 minutes later? If I check my blood sugar and put it in the app, that should cancel out. Other than that, great app, keeps me more on top of my levels than I’ve been in years, even during my 15 years on a pump!
Wrong IOB from the jump
Jennt1d
UPDATE: a very nice Instagram user who I’ve never met helped me out. If you tap the dose it will pop up with a choice to label it a prime dose or a real dose. This changed everything for me! My doses are now correct. I do wish companion medical had 24/7 support for an app that supports a medical product that costs $800 and is for medical purposes. Original review: I was so excited about this product. It was easy to set up the app, easy to install a cartridge, and easy to pair the pen with the app. However my issue is that the app now shows that pairing dose as insulin on board. This happened once before a week ago. Keep in mind that you pair it without a cartridge so the smartness of this device should be able to recognize it’s not a real dose. And yet last week it showed I had near 100 units of IOB because I kept trying again to disconnect and pair again figuring operator error. However I could never get it right and in my frustration I gave up. Try again today when ingot my new cartridges and same thing. It shows 11U IOB. Which is not correct. That was the pairing dose. So basically the bolus calculator is useless to me if it’s assuming I have all that insulin on board. I tried to call tech support but they are only open M-F 8-5, which is a major disappointment to me considering this is a medical device. I believe their tech support should be 24/7. I tried to see if there was a way to delete doses but of course not because that must be a safety issue, however dosing insulin with an inaccurate IOB is also a safety issue. At the moment I feel smarter than my smart insulin system. For now I’m gonna tuck it away until tech support opens again in 3 days. I’m determined to make this work. A lot of money is on this. Just disappointed it is so challenging. If anyone has any tidbits or secrets to making this work better I’m all ears!
Great product but the app has a major flaw
dcrushhh
I’ve had type 1 diabetes for nearly 30 years, and the InPen has been a complete game-changer in helping me keep track of whether or not I’ve taken an insulin dose. It’s an incredible product, and I highly recommend it.That said: the iOS app has a major flaw where it doesn’t always save changes I make to my insulin sensitivity settings on the “Therapy Settings” screen. My insulin sensitivity fluctuates a lot, so I have to go in and adjust those settings every couple of weeks. When I select a new value on any of the fields that have pickers (like “Insulin Sensitivity Factor”), the screen doesn’t always remember the new selection when the picker dismisses, and there’s no visual indicator on the screen to show whether or not a field updated. It took me a really long time (and a lot of stress about my blood sugars!) to realize that this was happening.I’m leaving a 1-star review in hopes that this gets the attention of the InPen dev team, because I can’t find any other way of leaving feedback on the InPen app. I’d be happy to provide more details to the InPen dev team if I had a better way to get in touch than an App Store review. I can edit this review/rating if this issue ever gets addressed.
Multiple replacements all defective pen caps!
jon78ray
I’ve had 3 pens with issues with the pen caps either coming loose, breakage of the clip or completely falling off. I’ve almost lost a full cartridge of insulin on many occasions. I can’t carry my InPen with me in my pocket. It’s not secure. I’ve been using this pen for years now and I love everything about it and the app! Except for the cap! It doesn’t stay on!!! Unacceptable. I’ve grown to be completely frustrated with your product. And unfortunately it’s enough of a safety and reliability issue that I can no longer proceed with using your product. Furthermore, when I called today for a replacement cap, your representative would t help me. I explained my issue and instead of listening to my concerns he was asking for irrelevant personal information like my weight and my middle name. Obscene. And quite frankly disgusting and offensive! What is going on with your organization?!? I simply want a pen with a secure cap and some respect when calling and speaking with one of your representatives. I’ve received neither one. Shame!
