This app is a necessity if you want to sort through thousands of photos on an iPhone. DS photo is horrible when you’re trying to find a phone from years ago and you don’t know exactly when it was taken. But the ability to look through lots of photos easily is one of the only good things about it. You still need DS Photo to actually organize your photos into folders. What Moments Needs:PASSWORD PROTECTION - This is an absolute must and it’s the only Synology app that doesn’t have it. This needs to be added immediately to protect the photos. Ability to separate photos by albums. Having all photos lumped together is great until you have multiple family members saving photos which leads to lots of viewing redundancy. Facial recognition needs a lot of work. It doesn’t recognize people from different photo sets. Ability to change the “badge photo” for people. It chooses the absolute worse photos and there’s no rhyme or reason. I don’t want an infant photo to display for a child that’s now ten years old. You need to run both DS Photo and Moments for full function on an iPhone. If it wasn’t for the fact that I can easily search through photos I wouldn’t use Moments at all. It makes a mess of things in general.

I love the concept of this app, but background uploads are extremely buggy, especially with any large videos or 4K videos this app struggles a lot. PhotoStation used to handle larger videos pretty well, before I tired this. Also, would it be too much trouble to include a sort option for the photos in moments that sorts them like the photos app does. I constantly find myself scrolling the wrong way because of this. Just scroll the collection to the bottom on appear and it will not be an issue. Seems like you wanted the user to see the the most recent images first, which I love, but it’s backwards, or Apples photos app is, but either way, they should be the same for continuity purposes. Lastly, what is the plan here? Are you keeping photos station or moments, or both, I would reconsider this, as it not only creates confusion on setup, but it seems like neither one gets amount of updates they really need to be getting, to be polished out well. Between this and Drive and the Files app, there are way too many ways to sync photos for the average user to figure out. I would not care about all the options, if they all worked well, but this just adds more things for you guys to manage, and none of them work the same or very well at the current moment. Overall, moments is my favorite photo experience you guys offer, but the current build is still really buggy and crashes and is killed by the iOS process watchdog quite frequently. I am happy to help your team test a fix for this, if they need me too, but try uploading 4K videos that are 5mins or more in length and you should see what I mean. Thanks guys!

I upload photos from previous years in its entirety and consider this more of a place to archive all photos other than the current year and works fine. For example I have all photos up to 2020 and when 2021 is complete I will upload in its entirety. Kind of like tax returns. Yes it’s a little clunky here and there but having all your photos over 10 years is kind of cool.I then just use iCloud for just the current year and pay 3 a month for the simplicity of the apple photos app but not paying 10 a month for their high tier. Seriously apple needs to get with the times with cloud space. I just want all my photos in one place without having to pay $120 a year. But using two apps is I guess the next best thing.

I recently purchased a Synology NAS, with one of its use cases being that I could be less reliant on Apple cloud technologies to store and retain my personal photos. I was hopeful that the Moments app would do the trick, but it only kind of works.In the sense that it can grab your photos off of your phone and back them up to the NAS, it works. However, it does an absolutely HORRIBLE job of interpreting the metadata associated with each photo. I have photos that I took years ago that are showing up as just having been taken yesterday! For whatever reason Moments is unable to properly decode the date metadata, so from an organizational and searching perspective the app is a major failure. I’m unsure if I’ll continue to utilize it until such time as Synology can fix this very basic issue with the app’s functionality.
