Description

The Montana 511 mobile application provides real-time access to traffic and traveler information supplied by the Montana Department of Transportation (Montana DOT). Maps depict current traffic conditions, as well as incident and construction events that can impact traffic on all Interstate, U.S., and State Routes. Alert, and weather information is also available. The map indicates the location of roadside cameras, which allow users to view current traffic conditions. As users move through the highway network, the app can keep track of their location on the map. Montana DOT's Twitter feeds are also accessible and provide information impacting traffic across the state's regions.

Hope it’s better than previous

Haven’t used this new version yet but the old one was worthless for figuring out road construction. It would show construction still for places that had been completed for weeks after completion. Example was road work on Hwy 28 between Hot Springs and Hwy 93! I drove that piece regularly and while they were doing work for a couple weeks, the app continued to show it for weeks after. I finally deleted the app as found it worthless

Ruined a very useful app

It’s very hard to look at a glance and figure this map out. The key is hard to find and just as hard to use. Having to read the road conditions is a step backwards. Also the printed description doesn’t include in which direction conditions exist. It’s also hard to find the cameras. When you do it seems there are fewer camera angles. Many cameras had multiple angles previously. If they do now it’s hard to access. The overlay of various features is cluttered and nearly impossible to use. Why are the symbols for various features also hard to recognize now? Like the camera symbol looking like a paint roller.

If someone would put the old app as it was back into use I’d gladly pay a monthly fee and delete this worthless version. I’ve read the reasoning. The old app needed updated. That’s understandable. But it didn’t mean scrapping a useful tool in favor of something that’s absolutely not user friendly. How many one star ratings and scathing reviews will it take to return this app to as similar to previous version as possible?

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback and for using the app. You can toggle on/off many of the map features via the top-right menu (Map Overlays) to make the map easy to look at a glance and less difficult to figure out. The key for Road Conditions can be found by tapping the blue key in the lower-right corner of the map. Be sure to have Road Conditions toggled on via the top-right menu (Map Overlays) so that they appear on the map. Tapping any segment on the map produces a road conditions report, which you can have read to you by tapping the play button if you don’t want to read it. There are two ways to access traffic cameras. The top-right menu contains Map Options, including Other Cameras (under Features) and RWIS Cameras. Be sure to toggle on both of those options so that camera icons will appear on the map. Another way to view cameras is via the top-left menu on the map. Under Traffic Cameras, there are lists of cameras and images by route. We hope that helps you find the cameras you are looking for. After you try out these options, please consider coming back and updating your review. If you would like additional assistance, or to provide more feedback about the user experience, please email us at MT511@iteris.com. We want to make sure the system meets the needs of our past, current, and future users. The legacy MDT511.com and MDT 511 apps served Montana well for many (15+) years, but they ran on older code that was getting harder to support with modern browsers and mobile devices. For statewide road conditions, as you mentioned, you can also call 511 within Montana or 800-226-7623 outside Montana. You may also want to check out MDT511.com for weather conditions before your trip. Thank you again for using the MDT 511 Travel Info app. Safe travels.

Pretty good

There’s a lot of information in this app, and all in all it’s everything you need to know about the roads. I really like how you can swipe on the road cams and it’ll give you the next one down the road. As a truck driver I wish there was a road camera on Cardwell, and I wish they would update the pictures of the road cams more frequently. I drive these roads everyday and know that in the winter the roads change very quickly. The update times are more than 40 minutes behind and that’s just not fast enough. I also wish you could use multiple features at one time. This app has a lot of potential and I like the update so far though.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback and four-star rating! The cameras should be updating regularly. If you find a camera not updating quickly, email MT511@iteris.com with the camera name, including any screenshots if possible, and we will do our best to help. Also, you should be able to use multiple features at one time, but if you are unable to do so, please email us specifics of what you are trying to do, and we will respond. We do not recommend using the app while driving. For statewide road conditions, you can also call 511 within Montana, 800-226-7623 outside Montana, or visit MDT511.com before your trip. Safe travels, and thanks again.
