MyChart is the Greatest personal healthcare tool. I personally use it for communications with my healthcare professionals… Refilling prescriptions… Setting up appointments… and video visits from the comfort of my home… office… vacation spot, setting on the beach… or even the front seat of my car! The Functionality that this application has is second to none in the marketplace today! My own personal health record is available to me to look at by just logging in securely and my personal health records are kept safe by Sentara’s multi million dollar security system! If I wanna know what my A1c was a few years ago, it’s on my chart. If I want to look at my past appointment after visit summaries, they’re right there at my fingertips by either my desktop computer, laptop or using the MyChart mobile app on my handheld electronic device. It is so convenient to login into MyChart and see what appointments are available with my PCP or even my specialist, such as my orthopedic doctor, who is another organization, other than Sentara has the Epic electronic medical record. System in their healthcare company will have my chart at my disposal, and I will have all of my medical records with all of my providers from all over the country. You might think that I sound like a salesman for MyChart. I am not, but I am a strong CHAMPION of MyChart and an avid user of MyChart! I also am the retired senior software analyst that built MyChart in 2006 for Sentara Healthcare and maintained and enhanced its functionality until 2022, when the MyChart team took over, this great healthcare tool. I know firsthand the functionality and awesome things that MyChart has the capability of doing, because I built most of what it does today… So use this wonderful application that Sentara Healthcare has provided you, free of charge…. To help improve your health, everyday!

Recently I had a pretty major back surgery, and was encouraged multiple times to download the app. “You can schedule your appointments, see your own test results, track your health, contact your Dr or staff, refill prescriptions, etc. That all sounds great, but I’ve tried to contact my dr multiple times through the emails on the app, tried to refill my prescription 3 + times, nor could I get my test results. I never received one response to the multiple requests for prescription renewal, never got a response to my increased pain and decreased mobility complaints, nor could I get anyone to contact me about getting copies of my test results so I could turn them over for my short term disability claim. To sum it up, this app is strictly for your Dr to contact you, track your health, and better review your past appointments and labs. All in all it seems like a great app for your Dr to better track and contact you, but it doesn’t go both ways....Update: One FULL WEEK later I finally received a response to ONE email...so they do receive the emails on the other end and I guess just choose to ignore them? I don’t know who to blame. This app is for THEM, not YOU, and Sentara’s post op care in general is just lack and lazy.

I have waited 4 months for a new appointment after my previous provider left in December. Her partner scheduled a “get to know me appointment” yet I wasn’t informed. When her office called to inquire why I wasn’t there, I informed them I had no knowledge of the appointment, and couldn’t come because I was in the middle of a 12 hour shift at CHKD. When I tried to reschedule, it couldn’t be rescheduled until April 2026. So, I looked for a new provider. I found a provider who could see me on August 6 at 1:15 at Sentara Family Medicine. I received a voicemail on Friday, while at work to reschedule the appointment because the provider was going on maternity leave! I have been waiting 4 months to see a provider. I have medical issues that need addressing and prescription meds that need refilled! If Sentara providers can’t meet the needs of the insured PPOs they administer and control, then the insurance company needs to include more providers that extend beyond the Sentara Network. This is absolutely ridiculous and absurd!!!
