Games, Rewards, and Learning - good option for screen time!

My son has enjoyed learning through this program. He looks forward to lessons and takes pride in his growth, especially when he achieves a certificate at the end of a quiz. The rewards program is great (children earn for their participating and then can purchase virtual items in the store). There’s lots of positive reinforcement throughout the program. The lesson challenges appropriately grow and learning is done through games that are varied and fun. There are songs and very short videos, too, and so it addresses many types of learners. The lessons are short so they are achievable and easy to keep a child’s attention. The program has helped build my son’s confidence around reading and he can be very hard on himself but because the lessons are short and the challenges increase slowly, he has worked through these without too much frustration. Because he is in a dual language immersion program at school (90/10 Spanish English right now), this has been a good way to boost his English reading skills at home. I also appreciate this can take place of other screen time - he seems to enjoy it almost as watching a little show!

My kids are learning to read!

My four kids ages 4 1/2-7 have been using Reading Eggs since November of 2019. My 7 year old was reading fluently, but Eggspress helped work on vocabulary, dictionary skills and comprehension. My then 5yo had started picking up some phonics but definitely needed something more interactive. This app was the key! It helped him get over the hump and he, as a Kindergartner, just completed lesson 100 of Reading Eggs this week! My 3yo started reading with the app in Nov and is now only two maps behind his 6yo brother. For my 5yo in between his two brothers this allows him to work at his own pace. I am LOVING the new Fast Phonics that was recently added to the site . It is wonderful for refreshing those phonics skills and is exactly what my son needs before starting Kindergarten in the fall. The kids also love the MathSeeds. It presents math skills in a very fun way. Two cautions I would make...at the end of each reading lesson there is a book to read. The program will allow the child to have it read to them. I recommend having the child read the book out loud with appropriate help to get the maximum use of the program . Another thing to be aware of is that a few of the reading games are timed. This is actually very stressful for a couple of my young readers. They are so worried about the timer going off they can’t concentrate on the reading . I have to cover up the timer so they don’t see it. All in all I am thrilled to have found this program. We started a free 30-day trial but by the end I knew we had to sign up for both the Eggs and Seeds subscriptions! Thanks so much for all your work and effort into creating this app and making it fun for the kids. Who knew they could be motivated by egg creatures, hatching acorns and Yetis! They get so excited to show each other and me their new earned prize at the end of each lesson. Keep up the good work!

Love it but does need some minor corrections

We love the app but as a mother and a teacher I think on some of the activities like when it comes to selecting rhyming words or spelling a word if a child realizes they accidentally clicked the wrong letter or picture or accidentally put the letter in the wrong spot they should be able to correct it instead of it permanently staying there until you just purposely finish the spelling the word wrong or clicking the another picture for it to restart. Also having the capital Letter “Ii” being shown in two different ways (the one you typically see on a ABC line and the version that looks likes lowercase “Ll”) confuses the child especially when they are matching uppercase and lowercase letters like on the train game and they are thinking they are seeing two “Ll”. You show them the word/letter one way in a game and in a different way in a later game. Also cutting the /uh/ sounds off on the quick sounds and when deciding and blending the words holding the non-quick sounds out longer than .5 sec so they can hear the word. Also adding test for sight words, rhyming, ABCs, sounds like how there are road test for math seeds and the different topics would be really cool or just adding a section for sight words for them to keep practicing would be amazing. Other than those minor issues we love the game.

The pace and order are awful

Downloaded this yesterday and sat with my son as he tried to participate. I put him in the reading level for 3 year olds and we started from the beginning. It started off OK by showing him /m/, followed by /s/. I was a little frustrated when it started with lowercase /m/, but then threw in a capital M randomly, but we worked through it and moved on. I would also have liked if he were able to trace the letter, rather than just touching numbers in order to connect the dots. This wasn't even tracing from one number to the next, but rather just touching numbers in order...this is a very big assumption that my child can recognize numbers in order. The section where he has to drag the word to match the picture is also rather useless, as He. Can't. Read. Yet! Hence the reason we were trying out this app.The part that really made me close the app and delete it was when, on level 3, after having only done the /m/ and /s/ sounds, it suddenly introduced /I/, followed immediately with the word /am/. The app was suddenly asking my barely 4 year old to find the words with the /am/ sound inside them (clam, stamp, lamb, etc). Then it gave him the sentence "I am Sam" (no previous mention of the word Sam other than it being the main character's name) and was asking him to find the word Sam, or I, or am. My kid is 4 and doesn't know letter sounds, let alone the concept of a word!I don't know what research went into the making of this app, but from a teacher's perspective, this follows no logical order.

We provide children with a research-based, structured phonics program that teaches children to recognise sounds right from the first lesson.
