BetterPoints is ideal if you’d like to ditch the car and opt for other greener ways to get around, for your health and for the environment. It’s easy to get proper rewards for doing good things:
- Install the app and register
- Join a challenge
- Track some activities
- Earn BetterPoints
- Redeem your points or donate to a charity of your choice

As seen on BBC News as the app that gives you free beer for cycling: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/stories-45940844/the-city-that-gives-you-free-beer-for-cycling “Every time you take a sustainable journey, you log it on an app. At the end of the trip, you get points which can be cashed in for rewards. They are kind of like air-miles, the more journeys you do, the more points you get and once you have enough, you can choose a reward”. BBC

Here’s what people have found about using the app:

“I find BetterPoints is great for motivating me to cycle and walk that bit further and for tracking my route. Choosing to donate points to charity or reward yourself is also a fantastic incentive.”
Richard, Reading

“The app was easy to download and I liked it so much that I got my sister, husband and daughter on it too! As a family we’re looking at a healthier lifestyle and it’s a great incentive. I also like the fact that it’s designed around my community and what’s local to me.”
Marie, Skelmersdale

“I really like that you can choose to donate some or all of your points to local groups as it means we get double the value – people getting more active and money being spent in Salford on good causes!”
Catriona, Salford

“BetterPoints gave me the nudge I needed to get off my posterior and get back into being more active.”
Peter, Sutton

“What started out as "Oh well, let's see if I can earn the odd voucher" has genuinely changed my habits!”
Liz, Birmingham

“BetterPoints is more than the rewards, it's meeting goals and then looking back and self-reflecting, and realising how far I've come makes me feel really proud of my achievement.”
Vidya, Hampshire

“The BetterPoints app is really easy to use, well laid out and provides goals and rewards all displayed in one place. I find myself wanting to walk for longer periods of time to see the points add up, me and my son have opted to walk to and from school rather than going in the car.”
Kimberly, Skelmersdale

The BetterPoints app uses the GPS to record the length of your journeys to allow us to award BetterPoints and BetterTickets.

We do our best to minimise battery use while tracking activities, but note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. We recommend a full charge overnight.

If you have any problems using the app, please email customercare@betterpoints.uk - we’ll try our best to help you!

Astrugi ,

Ms

It sounds very good, you are active and rewarded with points and vouchers. However not every time, it seems to cap your points after a couple of activities per week and doesn’t give you any points at all, no matter how long the activity. Kind of demotivating to use it every time. Also the estimation of miles done is completely inaccurate lately, not sure why. But occasionally you may get a small voucher. Oh and there is a catch there too - you cannot use it unless you register, so the retailer has your details! And that’s really not ok.

Developer Response ,

Hello,
No retailer has your details, we have a strict privacy policy and do not share your data with 3rd parties. It is just how the vouchers are set up. You simply sign up for an account with us.
If you are in a funded programme there is usually a maximum number of BetterPoints you can earn for the week. But further activities count towards how active you are each week and towards medals (see the Progress tab of the app.)
If there is any discrepancy in the miles you think you've done and what has been tracked, have you written into us to flag this us? We can make recommendations as needed.

Uzma

Might as well call it Bettertickets now

I’ve enjoyed using this app for years and especially early on was very pleased with the amount of points it bestowed and what I could buy with them, however a consistent theme has been a decrease in the points awarded to the point now where you seem to earn no points at all for activity, only tickets for entry into a prize draw where you MIGHT win them.
As someone who’s just short of 5,000 points this is quite irritating as I’m so close to being able to redeem them. Now I’m reduced to hoping I win a draw at some point, but even if I do, I’ll always just be just short of £10 worth of points and so on. The points I had are almost worthless in essence.
I’ve nevertheless been earning tickets for several months now but haven’t won a draw. I do wonder what my odds are now of getting any more points again.
My understanding is that other schemes that reward activity are available and having been happy with BetterPoints for some time, I fear my only option is to investigate these alternatives.

Developer Response ,

Hello,
Since you live in an area that no longer has a funded challenge - that is why you are only earning BetterTickets. This enables others who cannot take part in the funded schemes to still be able to use the app to track activity, earn virtual medals and generally see how active they are being.
If you write into me via the app's Help section - I can check how many points you do have and see if there are any options less than £5 you could look into.

Great App to log exercise and help the environment

This is a great app to record your walking, cycling and running. You earn points every time you record your exercise and earn tickets to be entered into weekly and monthly draws. Once you earn enough points - which stack up very quickly- you can redeem vouchers from as little as £2 for most high street retailers, or you can donate your points to a local or regional charity. Using the app encourages you to use the pop up lanes that have been created due to COVID and has encouraged us a family to discover routes we didn’t know existed. BetterPoints also adds different challenges for you to join which records environmental info in your area and questionnaires that can also earn you points. If you walk and cycle anywhere you should be using this app.
