Dexcom Follow – Monitor a Loved One’s Glucose Wherever You Are!

The Dexcom Follow App is part of the Dexcom CGM system.

Use this app if your loved one is sharing data from their Dexcom CGM app.  The Sharer will need to send an invitation to allow you to connect after you have installed the Follow app.

Dexcom Follow is the perfect companion to your loved one’s Dexcom CGM, connecting you to those nearest and dearest to you, even when they’re far away. Through secure wireless connections, Dexcom Follow allows you to view and follow the glucose levels, trends and data of your loved ones.

Whether you have a child who is in school, an elderly parent who lives on their own, or a spouse who is going on a business trip, Dexcom Follow is there to keep you connected and informed.

With Dexcom Follow, you can:
·         Monitor your loved one’s glucose activity at school or anywhere they go.
·         Receive glucose information of up to 10 different Sharers – children, friends, or other loved ones.
·         Respond quickly with the help of customizable glucose alerts and push notifications that can inform you when a Sharer’s glucose levels are outside the usual ranges.

Inconsistent alerts and feature gaps

Much like many of the other reviews here - we have been greatly disappointed by the consistency of alerts for the follow app. As a parent of a child with diabetes, we rely heavily on notifications on our phones to manage our son’s highs and lows. Despite following all the guidance from Dexcom’s website, it is still a lottery as to whether my phone makes any audible alert when his levels drop low. As others have highlighted- this is especially concerning at night when he may be in hypo for hours without any alerts.

The other disappointment is around the lack of modern iOS features adopted that would vastly improve the experience for this app(and the main Dexcom G6 app):

1) time sensitive notifications - these would allow alerts to “break through” silent settings, focus modes, etc and ensure audible alerts are ALWAYS heard (something the Libre system already supports)

2) widgets - it would be great to have a Home Screen and Lock Screen widget available so my son’s blood sugar is visible at a glance

3) watch complications - allegedly there is one available but I cannot find it anywhere when configuring my watch faces. Dexcom should support all the new format complications so it is available at a glance on any watch face.

Alerts never go off, just a worry more than a help

The alerts on the follow app never seem to work anymore, I have to listen out for my sons alerts as they never come through on mine and sometimes they don’t even go off on his!
I have updated the app, deleted and reinstalled it, you name it but it just isn’t consistent.
I’ve had so many nights now where he has been high or low through the night and not 1 alarm has gone off. Last week my son was hypo from 2 in the morning till 7 and not 1 alert made a sound! - this is life threatening!
This should not be happening let alone regularly, very disappointed, this is supposed to help but I’m up constantly through the nights now as this just isn’t doing what it’s supposed to!

Libre app so much better

Although the dexcom device may be more accurate with readings itself, the functionality of the dexcom app is painfully basic. In the libre app you would be able to see a graph of the readings, be able to zoom In to areas on the graph to see individual readings at certain times when spikes/drops occurred to see specific readings at those times. But the main thing the libre app had that the dexcom app doesn’t, as well as a graph, you could also see a number log of every updated reading over a 24 hour period in list form incase you couldn’t read the graph. The absence of either of these features, only having a basic graph and a current exact reading, no previous readings of the past hour at least, makes it very hard to monitor or manage.
