I came across Orion after switching from Google to Kagi search engine, and am fully on board with the privacy angle. I’m now using Orion across both iOS and macOS, and have found it to be fast, user friendly, and a nice way to escape the Google ecosystem whilst having more features than Safari. I believe earlier versions were a bit buggy but I’ve not had any issues on mobile. I do miss the DuckDuckGo Burn button to clear out cookies - Orion has something similar with a clear cookies option but has totally missed the point of the burn button as there’s no way to “fireproof” websites. Hopefully this will get implemented at some point - I’d encourage the devs to use DuckDuckGo for a few days to truly comprehend why it’s a powerful and desirable feature in a privacy oriented browser, as it lets you destroy tracking cookies across all random websites whilst staying logged in to all the websites you trust. Looking forward to seeing this product develop over time…

Great aspirations and values but at most a beta

I’ve been using Orion as my daily driver on both macOS and iOS for a couple of months now right after subscribing to the devs’ other project, Kagi. I want to support independent browsers and I want to have extensions on iOS, but the app is too unstable atm. I’m fine with a few bugs on a desktop app, but on a smaller screen they become too much of an annoyance. Things that made me stop using it : tabs from previous session will randomly either disappear/close or turn blank, i.e the tabs are there but now open all on the “start page”; most extensions don’t really work; the sync when it works is incredibly slow (I know the devs say this is due to iCloud sync, but other browsers do it better, so it’s painful to get used to); I use my phone browser only when away from my main machine, and often I just need to quickly open something so that I can continue on the other machine. With Orion I find that most of the time I’m having to airdrop stuff or add stuff to reminders to make sure they don’t disappear which ruins the seamless experience of other browsers. I’ll keep using the macOS app and I’m hoping that the devs get enough support to make it better

Among other GUI issues, it makes this app very confusing and a bore to use.When IE and Netscape made the first web browsers, they spent a lot of money to get everything right, and to make the user experience as easy as possible. Things improved over time, and a reasonably good GUI was the end result. Now, just about every browser app on iOS has tried (and failed) to improve that experience.Privacy is what this browser is all about, and it’s very difficult to know if privacy is what I’m getting. The same goes for all web browsers. This app could be diverting any or all information thru some MITM sever, and the user would have a hard time trying to find out. But, when a browser makes life hard, concerns about privacy are pushed to one side. I just want to delete the app and look for better apps.However… I spent a lot of time on the App Store, looking for a good browser, with privacy and a nice GUI, and I’m getting bored of downloading browser after browser, but getting nowhere. Try to get the GUI working, and everyone will want to use it. Most would happily pay for that (not IAP though!!), just to make their internet use a lot more pleasant. Then get the privacy right, and you’d have a number 1 app. But what you have here is just another waste of the many hours I’ve spent on the useless App Store. Time after time.Good luck with your project. I genuinely hope this app can be improved. But, to be honest, I think the App Store is doomed. It’s just full of rubbish.
