This is... getting worse every update
A wrapper for the mobile website that requires you to login every time you open the app, and an app icon that looks like it was drawn in MS Paint... I’m happy with Octopus as a customer but their app could learn so much from competitors like Bulb or Ovo.
Update July 2021: the automated photo recognition of meter readings stopped working ages ago. The app doesn’t remember login details. There’s now two menu bars with logos and menus (one of which doesn’t work). The content doesn’t fit the screen. It throws occasional incomprehensible errors. The branding and design is amateurish. The ‘wheel of fortune’ only works once if you submit both gas and electric readings.
I’ve got to the stage where I’m actively looking for other providers because trying to interact with Octopus has become such a chore (though, so far at least, the competitive tariffs are still keeping me a customer).
Edit: Just when you thought they'd hit rock bottom, they kept digging! Now the app won't even load. It tries to pop up something, takes you over to Safari, sits there not loading anything. You go back to the app and it's just a black page.
Seriously don't waste your time, just log into the account through the website because the app is an unusable cut down disaster. Much like the customer service you receive if you have an issue. The app asked me if I want a smart meter, I select a date and it comes up with an error, much like the website has done for the last 2 months. Octopus are obviously cheap because they aren't spending money on things like apps and customer service.
Designed to induce stress
I cannot believe how bad this (website wrapper) app is considering it is the face of a big energy company.
It is hard to navigate and when you find your way around to what you are looking for, things simply don’t work. For instance, I am trying to submit a meter reading only to be greeted with an error message saying, “This field cannot be null”, even though I have entered a reading so the field certainly isn’t “null”.
Octopus energy, you need to sack your development team and hire someone who knows how to build software that actually works. Your customers deserve better than what you’re getting away with offering them.
