Information at my fingertips

I recently opened a savings account as it was better interest than my Nationwide. I can see more information in the app than I can on my nationwide account which is great. The only down side is I would like to be able to make an electronic payment of funds into my account without having to write down the account details and leave to go into my other providers accounts to make that payment.

Good usable banking app

Skipton have been a bit behind the times with their lookup grid security card, but now there's this app and it does most things well.

It has one main advantage over other bank's apps - secure messaging from the app. Other banks (Nationwide) expect you to log on to their main website to do secure messaging, and HSBC has a ridiculous one-way only secure messaging - only from them to the app; you have to go to the main website to send them a secure message.

Anyway, back to the Skipton app, may I suggest a couple of improvements? Have the 'Logout' option on every page. Why should we have to navigate to '...More' to see the Logout button? At the very least have it on the homepage, so you can log in, check balances and logout quickly. I know it has an auto logout feature, but I much prefer to log out manually from any banking app.

I use TouchID login for the app, which works well. However, if you log out, go to another app and then return to the Skipton app, it then demands your PIN, with no option for TouchID. You have to close the app (flick upwards) then re-open it.

Apart from that, a good app which makes banking with Skipton feel modern and efficient.

Unclear

Decent building society but the website is not clear at all. Having a saver account and an ISA account with the very similar names is not a good idea. The online chat was helpful but the system is rubbish as what I typed and sent didn’t show so I sent it again. After a while it showed duplicate messages but kept failing to show new messages. The provider from which I want to transfer is not clear in the list of options so I entered the transfer twice in the hope one of the providers chosen actually works (I expect one to be rejected). Then the account I wanted is a 2 year base rate tracker with easy/instant access but they call it a 2 year account making me think I’ve opened an account I can’t access for 2 years! Overall not a very good experience of opening a new account online.
