Description

The UK Immigration: ID Check app lets you confirm your identity online as part of a visa application.

If you use this app, you will not have to attend an appointment to confirm your identity.

Who can use the app
• EU, European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss citizens
• British national (overseas) visa (BNO) applicants who have a BNO or Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport
• Graduate visa applicants who have a UK biometric residence permit (BRP)

Before you start

You must follow the steps in the online application form before using the app.

You will need to be in a well-lit area, so you can take a good quality photograph of yourself.

You will need either:
• a biometric residence permit (BRP) - if you’re applying for a graduate visa and are not from the EU, European Economic Area (EEA) or a Swiss citizen, you must use your BRP
• a passport that has a chip (also called a ‘biometric passport’)

You need to use:
• an iPhone 7 or newer
• iOS 15 or later

How it works

1. Take a photo of your identity document.
2. Access the chip in your identity document using your phone.
3. Scan your face using the camera on your phone.
4. Take a photo of yourself for your digital status.

What happens next

The app only helps confirm your identity. You must still complete the rest of your application. We will tell you how to do this when you finish using the app.

Privacy and security

The app is safe and secure. Your personal information will not be stored in the app or on the phone when you finish using it.

For information on staying safe online please visit the UK Cyber Aware website.

Deb Winger ,

App caused my Visa app to DELETE!! Does NOT work with ANY iPhone!!!!

Started with my 13pro, didn’t work. Then based on call center help, tried on an old phone (8) running required OS. After 2 hrs trying to get this to work, NOT able to scan the chip on my BRP card (NFT cannot be enabled for any other service than Apple Pay- so this is DOOMEd to failure!!!). I read online that it will not work with ANY iPhone!!!!!

It took front and back photos fine, eventually after multiple failures, I said to skip the chip scanning part, it scanned my face successfully and then took a photo to submit. That completed fine. Then I went online to complete my application, and it said since I could not be verified, it DELETED the entire visa application that the PAID lawyer built and submitted for me. When I log into my account now, it says NO RECENT APPLICATIONS! Now I have to pay the lawyer again to look into this and put a new app together. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Need to update ASAP

I am using this app for identity verification for an eVisa application. However, it cannot recognize my BRP, even though I am using the latest iPhone. I have tried many methods, including uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but it still does not allow me to enter details manually (the Home Office said it would allow you to input details manually after three attempts). The app is unable to take a photo of the BRP card.

Now, I am stuck at the first step of the ID check and have no idea what to do next. The Home Office staff could not provide any solutions and said that this app is the only way to check your ID, but the app cannot recognise the BRP card and won’t take the photo.

Please fix the bugs and update the App.

Used iPhone XR to scan BRP card

Used iPhone XR to scan BRP card (older version with the chip visible) - done it from the first attempt, scanning via NFC, pics of BRP and selfie. My advice: read full guidance on Gov Uk site about how to use this app - there it says to lay the top part of the phone on top of the BRP aligning the top edges basically ( no hovering above or anything like that). So take the case of the phone - lay it flat on top of the BRP (back BRP side where chip is visible) and let it do its thing - dont touch nothing until it will say that scan done ok.
It is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️from my experience.
