I was hesitant to enroll in StreetSmart at first because of my prior knowledge associated with similar apps and the opposite desired effect on your rates. As another reviewer has said, this is a FAIR app regarding grading performance. However, I have several areas where this app could be approved. I find the hard braking parameter is triggered if the phone is not 100% stable during driving (ex., flimsy phone mount, having the phone in a wireless charger cubby, driving a car with floaty suspension like a Lincoln Town Car). Two, when redeeming a reward amount, it would be nice to have the option of entering a custom amount instead of having strictly $5 intervals. For example, if you have $19 in rewards, $4 of that is not redeemable. Overall, it's a great app that needs just the tiniest of fine tuning.

My biggest issue is with the break monitoring, followed by speeding. Way overly sensitive on the breaking. My Tesla drives most of the time. A good portion of my breaking issues occurs because a light changes to yellow, prompting the driving system to determine the car would run the red light, so it comes to a stop. This isn’t an issue with me following too closely and having to slam on breaks to avoid a wreck. Other times when I’m driving, I’m to the point of tensing up, expecting to get dinged because the breaks are sensitive. In fact, the car breaks when simply taking the foot off the accelerometer pedal. So I’ll break and coast to a full stop and will hear that hard breaking was detected. This happens so often. As for speeding—I’m driving through a bunch of construction on a hwy and there aren’t many/any speed limit signs in the newly opened lanes to merge on/off the highway. Other issue is where I’m perhaps pulling off the highway. It seems to pick up times I’m still slowing down from the 60s, perhaps on the exit ramp??? It would be more dangerous to suddenly drop from 60something to 45 on an exit ramp and doing so would cause a breaking ding. And again, usually the car is doing the driving, which I now have figured out to prevent speeding issues.

Overall I feel the app is pretty accurate. The one area it’s really not at all accurate is in hard braking. I feel that pretty much every event in which I’ve had to brake hard has been something outside of my control, and then I am harshly graded on that event. It is very frustrating as it happens so often I am now slowing down too slowly. If Amica doesn’t fix this issue, accidents may occur as people try to not get punished for their braking. It’s really bad. I’ve seen Amica’s responses to some of the other braking complaints and those responses are just way off base. They need to stop making excuses and fix the issue. Never reviewed an app until now. Overall pretty disappointed. Update to my review: took a bus ride as a passenger and the driver of the bus had a hard braking incident. My overall score went down 1 point due to the driver of the bus having to brake hard! I was simply a passenger on the bus (and I logged that I was on a bus as a passenger in the app). Again, this issue really needs to be resolved. This is wrong.Appreciate your response but unfortunately I feel that I’m getting scored harshly when I brake hard and it’s necessary. Just last night I stopped quickly at a light due to its turning yellow and if I didn’t stop I would have run a red light. I wasn’t speeding or doing anything out of the ordinary. The stopping quickly was a necessity. Yet I got two stars out of five for braking during that drive. It lowered my overall two week score. I think my quick response to the situation was a five star event. I don’t want to run a red light and cause an accident. I think I did great! I think Amica needs to re-think their views on braking events. Hard braking can be (and usually is) a very, very good thing.

This app is not good and so frustrated to use it with a family. The app keeps saying my sons were tapping his phones too many times and gave them a score of lower than 40. The truth was that they were playing games on the phones because they were not driving and I was. It is so annoyed to ask my wife and my two sons to tell the app on each short ride that they are passengers. Seriously could they analyze that they are part of the same policy and on the same trip and the same time: how could more than 2 people driving. Then when someone called me while I was driving and I used my CarPlay the app said I used the phone. Anyway, I am going to get rid of it since the small discount we try to save is not worth the time to fix the trip. Just imagine you drop your kids to two different schools and then with your wife to multiple supermarkets and pick the kids up from schools and then go to sport practices and pick them up from practices: And they need to go to the app and correct it each time. Or tell them don’t use your phone in the car even they are the passengers.
