Many foods say “one serving. Some have the option of a half or a quarter. For most foods you need to have the label of the package to determine what a serving size is. This is very inconvenient, if you’re not near the food package or already disposed of it. Could you break it down more: Small Ex: an item says 1 srvg. The label says 1 srvg= 1 tblsp. If you only had 2 tsp, there is no choice except 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 etc. -none of which equal 2 tsp.

My Blood Glucose has improved thanks to BlueStar.

Before my use of Blue Star I could not seem to get my glucose level under control. With a change in Meds and the use of BlueStar my glucose level has diminished. The benefits of using Blue Star is that I get immediate feedback whether my glucose level is in target, high or low. I am given an explanation for the rational behind that glucose level. At times I have eaten too much carbs resulting in a high glucose level. Other times I may have exercised too long which caused my glucose to go too low. The quick response is the thing I like most about BlueStar. Right after getting a glucose test result; thru BlueStar I also get feedback on the possible causes of that level. Furthermore when my glucose is in target I get a statement that rewards me for the great outcome. I am finally getting my glucose level in target and the thing I like best is that I now understand my role in controlling my glucose levels.

I finally realized I should send a report to myself on a weekly basis, not just to my doctor before a checkup. This way I can download all my records to my computer.There is one problem or bug. Periodically a survey pops up asking if I am taking a certain prescription. The problem is that I will be asked about the lower doses I am no longer taking before being asked about the higher dosage I take now. The lower doses were removed from the medication list when my dosage was increased.

Six months later, my A1c went from 8.4 to 6.8. And I lost almost 30 lbs. I enjoy the most encouraging messages after an entry. Even if you have been bad, it still gives positive feedback. I paired this app with the FreeStyle Libre Glucose Sensor. It so easy to take your blood sugar and immediately put it in the BlueStar app. Thank you so much for providing this service.

Intended use
BlueStar is a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) intended to be used by healthcare providers (HCPs) and their patients – aged 18 years and older - who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. BlueStar is intended to assist patients in managing their diabetes with guidance from their providers. BlueStar has two versions – BlueStar and BlueStar Rx

Indication for use
BlueStar® is indicated for use by healthcare providers (HCPs) and their patients – aged 18 years and older - who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. BlueStar is intended to provide secure capture, storage, and transmission of glucose data as well as information to aid in diabetes self-management. BlueStar analyzes and reports glucose test results and supports medication adherence. In addition, BlueStar provides coaching messages (motivational, behavioral, and educational) based on real-time glucose values and trends. It includes software intended for use on mobile phones or personal computers in the home or in professional healthcare settings. The software also allows for entry of other diabetes-related healthcare information and provides educational information.
The following BlueStar insulin management features are for prescription use only:
• For bolus insulin users with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, BlueStar includes an insulin dose calculator* to allow patients to use their prescribed regimen to calculate a dose of bolus insulin for a given amount of carbohydrates and/or glucose value.
• For basal insulin users with type 2 diabetes, BlueStar includes an Insulin Adjustment Program (IAP) which calculates appropriate long-acting basal insulin doses for titrating insulin levels based on configuration by a healthcare provider. The healthcare provider must activate the IAP and configure it with patient-specific parameters.
• For bolus insulin users with type 2 diabetes, the BlueStar IAP calculates appropriate dose adjustments of bolus insulin based on configuration of a healthcare provider. Qualified type 2 diabetes patients are those who are not achieving glycemic targets despite optimization of their basal insulin dose or their current bolus insulin regimen.
• For premixed insulin users with type 2 diabetes, the BlueStar IAP calculates appropriate dose adjustments of premixed insulin based on the configuration of a healthcare provider. Qualified type 2 diabetes patients are those who are not achieving glycemic targets and who do not take other types of insulin.

BlueStar is not intended to replace the care provided by a licensed healthcare professional, including prescriptions, diagnosis, or treatment.

*Insulin Dose Calculator may also be referred to as Insulin Calculator

Safety Information
Contraindications
BlueStar is not indicated for people with gestational diabetes or who use an insulin pump. For more information, call Customer Care at 1-888-611-4794.

Warnings
• For medical questions, please contact your health care provider.
• If you are experiencing an emergency, please dial 9-1-1
• Dosing decisions should not be made based on this device. The user should follow instructions on the continuous glucose monitoring system. This (CGM) device is not intended to replace self-monitoring practices advised by a physician.
• If you enter a low blood glucose (less than 70 mg/dL), BlueStar will provide in-the-moment coaching to treat your low blood glucose. BlueStar will also set a 15-minute timer to remind you to recheck your blood glucose after treating the low.
• If you enter a high blood glucose (over 300 mg/dL), BlueStar will provide in-the-moment coaching to treat your high blood glucose. BlueStar will also ask you to set a 3-hour timer to remind you to check your blood glucose again.
• Using the Insulin Calculator with incorrect dosing regimen or without all of your recent insulin logged may result in unsafe recommendations, which could lead to severe hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, or injury. Log all insulin from all sources into the Logbook.

Cautions
• Federal law restricts the BlueStar Insulin Dose Calculator and Insulin Adjustment Program (IAP) to sale by or on the order of a licensed health care provider.
• BlueStar is designed to work with glucose results reported in mg/dL and cannot safely be used with mmol/L values. To avoid harm please ensure that any glucose meter used with BlueStar is set for blood glucose values in mg/dL.
• To help prevent others from accessing your data or settings, always use a passcode or the biometrics (fingerprint or image of your face) to unlock your mobile device. Do not leave your mobile device in an area that can be accessed by others.
• Make sure you know which Bluetooth device you are pairing with your smart device.
• To ensure that data from your devices (e.g., blood glucose meter) are sent wirelessly to the BlueStar app, you must first pair your device and the BlueStar app.
• Changing the parameters of your approved insulin dosing regimen will affect your dose calculation. Confirm changes with your health care provider prior to updating your dosing parameters.
• The Insulin Calculator is designed for use with blood glucose results from a glucose meter. It is not designed for use with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
• BlueStar cannot calculate a dose within 2 hours of a previous dose, because it is difficult to know how much insulin is still active within this time frame. You can still take and record insulin based on your provider’s instructions.
• All bolus insulin that you have recently taken must be entered to ensure that Insulin on Board (IOB) calculations are correct. If IOB calculations are incorrect, your recommended dose may be higher and could result in hypoglycemia.
