No longer working with iPhone's Siri to unlock door in latest iOS 12
Every since iOS 12 was released Kwikset doesn't work properly with Homekit. Attempting to use Siri on both of our iPhone's results in Siri giving an error message stating that there is an issue and to refer to the Home app. I can usually still unlock the lock with the Home app, but unlocking with Siri is broken. And before someone asks, it doesn't matter if my iPhone is locked or unlocked. It will always fail when the iPhone is locked which seems to be by design likely for security reasons. However when the iPhone is unlocked using Siri to unlock the Premis lock fails around 66% of the time.
Yet the Home app doesn't have any issues. Siri control of our lights and Garage Door work normally, thus it is mostly likely the Kwikset implementation having some conflict with the recently released iOS 12 operating system.
Also note that I have an Apple TV 4th gen within 10 feet of the lock and enabled as our Homekit Hub specifically for the purpose of making the lock not limited by bluetooth. Again, the lock usually works with Homekit and this app to unlock. Siri is what is completely broken.
A great HomeKit lock
I have had the Kwikset Premis 919-K lock for almost a year now and absolutely love it. I would like to see Kwikset add better HomeKit integration in the form of passing through the information of the names of users who are unlocking. As it is right now, we have that information within the app, but I really love that I get notifications of locking/unlocking within the Apple Notifications... it would be a rockstar app if it would go further by passing the user name, etc. through on those notifications. I would also like to see the app and notifications state the name of the person unlocking via their iPhone (ex: when I tell Siri or HomeKit on my iPhone to unlock or lock my door, even the app ignores who it is and just informs that the locking/unlocking was done by “iPhone”. It should say who’s iPhone.
By addressing these small changes/additions, this lock and app would get 5 stars from me.
So I bought the new iPhone from the Apple store. Went home and tried to launch the app on my new phone and was told that I have to setup a new lock, but I didn’t need to set up a new lock I just needed to get to my current lock so I could get in out of the rain. Instead was stuck in an endless loop of having to try to setup a new lock when I could easily see that the app could see my other locks (I have 5). Finally had to call for my dad to come bring his physical key to let me in out of the rain.
Finally I called support. Waited on hold for almost an hour and finally hung up because my lunch break was up.
Sent them a message and told me that they were aware of the issue and will get around to it. Seriously?
You have digital locks that people can’t use because they get a new phone and you will get around to it later.
Beware their customer service is lacking and their is a good possibility that you will be locked out if your home if you upgrade phones.
Horrible app. Devs should be disappointed as this is a basic function of a lock.
Anyways up to this point no real issues but now even on my old phone as I didn’t trade it in the app there is also stuck in the endless loop.
This is horrible. I have 5 $200+ locks as I installed them on my apartment building I own for tenants and can’t change codes let people in remotely and have to use the physical key on a freaking $200 lock really?
Anyways I think you get the idea. Beware!!!
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
