Descent application but why so much bandwidth usage?
I've had the system installed for about six months now with no major issues to report on its functionality. Like others mention it's not exactly snappy and in fact sometimes I wonder if it's going to follow through with the command. I had MyQ in my last home and it was flawless, near instant. Not sure why they can't make it the same. What bothers me most though is the fact it constantly is making hundreds and even thousands of DNS queries. I've been monitoring the device using the Princeton IoT inspector since about noon today and the device has pushed over 14GB of data. That's a rediculous amount of data to push for something I assume is as simple as heartbeat to Genies cloud service. What in the world could it be transmitting? Almost forgot to mention it's sending all that data unsecured which is pretty scary. Anyone from Genie care to chime in? Has anyone ran Wireshark or some other network capture tool to see what the data actually is?
Basic Functionality works. App needs more notification options
Update: I had to turn on notifications for this app to work as the developer mentioned. I turned off the audio and pop up notifications in IOS to prevent them from appearing since the app sends an update for every event. Hopefully the developers will address it soon given the user feedback. After a week of use the device works as described below. The app does freeze and it required a log out and login to address a missing door.
Version 3.1.1. Just installed this today. Setup was simple. I didn’t have the connectivity issues with WiFi since I have a separate 2.4ghz router setup for these types of devices. The device simply detects if the door is open or closed. The app allows for easy remote control and shows a history of all garage door events. The app allows you to setup rules to automatically close the door if it has been open for too long or open during a certain time period. Unfortunately, as others have stated earlier this year, the app needs some development work. There is no way to define which events and define a time period for the app to send a particular notification. The app notifies you for EVERY door event.

After reading your review, we notice that you mention turning off notifications. In order for the app to function correctly, notifications do need to be turned on. We are working on notification flexibility and customization that will release in a future app update. Please let us know if you have any further questions 1-866-599-4995.
I am on my third Aladdin connect opener and although I will admit that the customer service is congenial, there is a functional defect associated with those devices. I have followed the instructions carefully and the devices work for a few weeks and soon thereafter, they have all done the same thing. Disconnection and just would not reconnect.
Not even the technical support folks could get it to function. I am tech savvy and feel for those of you out there who are not. This is problematic. I am just sorry that Genie’s current motherboards fo not allow you to use other competitors remote openers anymore. I used a Chamberlain MYQ opener with my Genie opener for years and never had any issues. I worries started when I had to replace my burnt board with the most current version, forcing me to use the Aladdin connect.
Genie’s customer service is reputable. I’ll give them a five rating but this product has issues. None of my other wireless devices have issues. And there are several.
Love my Genie Opener - it’s so quiet but may have to consider moving on from a six year customer.

Hi Cogzie, Please try to reset your modem and Wi-Fi router, and see if this resolves the connection issue. If it does not, the Aladdin Connect only works on 2.4 GHz, it could be possible that other devices are connecting to 5 GHz if you have a dual band router. If this is not something that we have worked with you previously on, please read this article here: https://store.geniecompany.com/blogs/genie-blog/compatibility-and-aladdin-connect-technology and If you would like more assistance, please call us at 1-866-599-4995 or emaill us at GDO@geniecompany.com and we can assist you with this.
