WHEN it works…

I have noticed that others are having the same problem that I am having. The app is not connecting to both hearing aids. In fact it is turning one hearing aid off and I have to manually turn the aid back on. My iPhone is on iOS 15.5, I have unpaired, deleted the app, reinstalled the app from the cloud, TRIED to re-pair my aids (iPhone doesn’t recognize them)…. I just want both hearing aids to be on if I do not turn them off. My hearing aid professional suspected it might be the hearing aid, so I am now on my second set of aids. I can’t wait to tell him that it is probably the Thrive app that is causing the issue.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback. The Thrive app isn't able to turn the hearing aid off. You might have a streaming memory that will turn off the microphones. It sounds like you have other Apple devices in the home on the same using the same iCloud account and Wi-Fi. You will need to toggle off Handoff and Audio Handoff it you wish to avoid the unintended Apple devices from connecting to your hearing aids.

After update 3.3 app won’t connect to Starkey hearing aids

I use the Thrive app for my Starkey Livio’s. I use my Apple iPhone for them. After updating the app, the hearing aids do connect to the iPhone, but not the app. They connect to the app on my iPads just fine…but who wants to haul an iPad around when an iPhone is what we need? I paid $8000 for my aids. The selling point was the accompanying app. The best thing you could do is post the former app version so we can reapply it to our devices, or further update the lousy updated 3.3 version. It’s very inconvenient to drive more than half an hour to my audiologist to have them try to fix the problem, by the way. Please, just fix the app! UPDATE: Thank you for your reply. I called the number for support and got an EXCELLENT tech who helped me get my hearing aids connected to the app. Interestingly, I went through all the steps you recommend in your reply but it didn’t work…the tech walked me through the same steps, and voila! It worked. Like magic! Lesson learned: call Starkey’s customer support line, they will be invaluable help :)

Developer Response ,

Thank you for reaching out for assistance. Please try the following steps.
1) Uninstall the Thrive app
2) Unpair the hearing aids, and turn the HA off.
3) Power off the phone, restart after 30 seconds
4) Check under Hearing Devices to see if the hearing aids show up. If you see your name, Forget the devices and reboot the phone

5) Pair the hearing aids
6) Install the Thrive Hearing Control
7) Open the app, do not sign into the cloud.
8) Test the results and email us from the Thrive Hearing Control to let us know the results.

Extended functionality for your hearing aids

One of the many reasons I went with Starkey hearing aids was the app. You can only go so far with physical buttons and taps to make adjustments, change modes and access features. The app does it all and I use it daily. Many options, many features all in your phone for easy access. Everything related to control of the hearing aid works great. The only flaw is one I don’t use much as the numbers recorded are never correct and that is the Wellness score. I have an Apple Watch and the Wellness numbers for Activity are a quarter of my watch. The Engagement numbers are also a quarter of my normal day is. There is no way to adjust or calibrate this and it’s a shortcoming of the app. Would be a nice feature to have if accurate. But as for the rest it’s great. I love it and use it many times throughout the day.

Thank you for the review. The Thrive Activity tracker measures steps, Exercise, which is a vigorous walk, and standing. The wellness score is a combination of both the engagement and activity scores. Engagement is comprised of the use of the hearing aid device, interaction, which is the time spent in environments with conversational speech. And Environment points is when the hearing aids are adapting to challenging listening environments. The Apple watch doesn't know how challenging your listening environments are. I would not say it's a fair comparison. If you have suggestions, please email us from the Thrive Hearing Control. We are interested in your ideas.
