What’s New
Version 5.5.1
Taking inspiration from Apple, I redesigned the Health metrics UI on the Dashboard so now don't just see if one of your metrics is out of its normal range, you can also see how far outside (or close to normal) it is.
Fixed a bug where if you had no sleep data, and did multiple Mindfulness App sessions during the day Athlytic would base your Recovery on your average waking HRV instead of your first Mindfulness HRV of the day.
Also from the big 5.5 update:
Training Load now has a very sophisticated A.I. coaching that will give you updates on your Training Load based on your Training Goal! I heard from a few users, especially new users who were not as familiar with the somewhat complex concepts related to Training Load that they had a difficult time understanding whether they were on the right track or not. I think this new coaching will go a long way towards educating you about these concepts and help you align your Training Load with your goals! (If you didn't already know that you can adjust your Training Goal, go to the More tab where you can set what your current goal of training is, which will be factored into your Target Exertion, Target Sleep, and now Training Load coaching.
Added Sleep Stress and Waking Stress! You will now see Sleep Stress and Waking Stress on the Stress Card isolating those periods of Stress both during periods of sleep, and waking (excluding sleep).
Sleep Stress now is also factored into to the Sleep Quality calculation, and as such is also now displayed below Sleep Quality. To recap, Sleep Quality is now based on your Sleep Stress, Restorative Sleep (REM and Deep Stages), Sleep Duration, Bloody Oxygen, Respiratory Rate, Sleep Interruptions, and Awake time. If you do not have Blood Oxygen or Respiratory Rate, it is not factored in. If you do not have Sleep Stage data, then the remaining metrics are used.
Big update for non-English speakers! All of the info cards at the bottom of each section in the app will now automatically translate to your iPhone's selected language (unless you have Hide Translations turned on in the More tab under Units and Language Preferences). Also for iOS 18 only. Big thanks to Jaclyn for learning this API and getting this done! Right now these are the available languages:
Arabic
Dutch
English (United Kingdom)
English (United States)
French (France)
German (Germany)
Hindi
Indonesian
Italian (Italy)
Japanese
Korean
Mandarin Chinese (China mainland)
Mandarin Chinese (Taiwan)
Polish
Portuguese (Brazil)
Russian
Spanish (Spain)
Thai
Turkish
Ukrainian
Vietnamese
Sleep Quality and Sleep Performance detail screens now also show a rating above the %.
Added Sleep Start and Sleep End Times to the Sleep Performance card so you don't need to scroll down to see them.
Added Average Bed Time and Average Wake Time on Sleep Time Consistency card.
Added Jump Rope and Track and Field as supported workouts on the Watch App.
Added Heart Rate Zone numbers in the zones UI to make it more clear which zone is which.
Bugs: Fixed a bug in the workout comparisons stats where the wrong SFSymbol was displaying for workouts like running.
Thanks!
Gary
Ratings and Reviews
Awesome.
Athlytic has the metrics dialed right in. I’m currently ramping up my training regimen in time for summer and have been using it to help “coach” me on how hard or easy to push myself on a 5-day-on, 2-day-off exercise regimen. Every day where I feel well-rested and ready to hit the gym or track, the app reflects that and recommends I train that day, and even gives suggestions on which activities I could do to help reach the exertion level it’s looking for, and every day I’ve felt underslept or recovering from the day before, the app reflects that as well, and recommends I take the day off. I’ve only been using it for about 6 weeks at this point but it has quickly earned its place in my little suite of exercise apps and I already find it indispensable. 10/10 recommend.
* Update as of November 2023: The app continues to be improved, new features added that are actually beneficial and UI elements that are well-designed. Can’t recommend this app enough for any athlete, especially if you have an Apple Watch, as it “unlocks” some truly useful functions of the watch that Apple hasn’t implemented into their own apps very well. I’ve literally used this app to help me decide when I can return to work after being sick because it has such accurate readings of my respiratory rate, heart rate variable, resting heart rate, and wrist temperature. Please download and support the developer. S+ Rank app.
Fantastic🥳
I very rarely have written reviews on apps, but I had to in this case. I signed up for the paid version last August, and since then this has become the first app I check every morning to see my recovery score, log my items from the day before, and compare with how I feel. It’s certainly modified my behaviors to try to improve my recovery and sleep performance, and the data from workouts using my Apple Watch is summarized in a fantastic and easy to understand way. My wife was hesitant at first, but now she is also obsessed with the app and uses it daily as well. The developer is responsive if you have any issues, and he’s consistently released new features and updates that have improved the overall experience. Widgets on iOS are great, and I’ve got a couple on my lock screen, and then the widget panel just off my Home Screen. I had debated Whoop for a long time, but couldn’t get past the cost of switching and the monthly membership model. In the end I decided I loved my Apple Watch and Athlytic provides me with essentially all the same information at a much more reasonable price point. I can’t praise this app and developer enough, thanks for the great experience!
Excited about Athlytic!
I’ve had an Apple Watch for years but got a whoop band earlier this year. The monthly subscription quickly became old- especially considering I was still wearing my Apple Watch for the Watch purposes and it can do everything the whoop does. Coming off of whoop, I was looking for something to track recovery and effort given throughout the day. Athlytic does everything and more! I’m glad I found this because I can use my watch but also have a powerful fitness tracker on my wrist now also. I’m also excited it is still early for this app so I’m looking forward to where it can go. The frequent updates are good because I feel they actually listen to what people are asking for.
If I had to change anything, I would say make the app more of its own. It looks similar to the Apple health app in some ways and I would like to see a fresh look just to separate itself more. Also, I love the new chart under the trend tab. The only thing is the recovery vs exertion tab is the only one you can press and slide to see more specific times. I think if all the charts were like this, it would be an even better experience. It would be nice to press and slide on heart rate throughout the day or workout to get a deeper insight. Overall, this app has everything and as mentioned earlier, I’m glad I found it early on and can’t wait to see it continue to improve and grow!
