Years of experience w/ this app & use it to spend hundreds of $$ (sometimes more) annually. It’s uncluttered w/ easy to access product descriptions adjacent specifications. Photos always high quality and quickly enlarge when tapped. Item search allows selection of > a dozen criteria together or independently, then sort. Love the sort-by-%-off feature, making bargain hunting super easy and fast. As a 40+ year REI member, it’s also useful to have purchase history: if I want to buy another of the same item, even years later, the app makes it easy to research size and other details, e.g., in recent sale on North Face backpacks, I found my past purchase > 3yrs ago & was able to compare old vs new product descriptions of the same model—very helpful! Especially notable that REI retains photos of items discontinued by the mfr. REI—you’ve nailed this app in every way. Thank you!!!

I love your app just the way it is!! Adding a bunch of extra technology like bugging people about their cart or closely monitoring people currently on the website, bugging them to request help, etc. is a bad idea. If you ever think about doing these things, PLEASE ONLY CONSIDER MAKING THEM OPTIONAL and allowing people to opt out of any new things that might be irritating or objectionable. As an older person, I very much appreciate the way I can simply zip in or out of the app and nothing has changed. No emptied shopping cart, no changes to the Saved For Later part (except standard alerts about Out of Stock or Re-Stocked items or other inventory-related messages). I love being able to “drop the ball” and “pick it back up later,” because then I can feel comfortable about doing things late at night in bed, if I fall asleep, no problem. Keep up the great work REI!!

I love REI in general; my feedback here is specific to the app. The one issue I’d fix above anything else is to avoid blocking the UI with full-screen spinners unnecessarily. When the user taps the back button to go to the previous screen, or returns to the app from somewhere else, blocking everything with a painfully slow reload is very frustrating. Instead, keep the UI unblocked, make a background network call to check for updates, and then update the UI when the updates are received. I know that the current user flow guarantees that whatever is displayed is always 100% up-to-date, but it’s not worth the performance hit.

This is an overall solid app. The UI is easy for browsing and shopping, and I’m able to find what I’m looking for pretty quickly. That also goes for purchase history going way back. I also appreciate the alerts when there’s a sale. My only complaint is the app doesn’t accurately reflect in-store inventory, which can be an issue for those who like to see or try on things first before committing to a purchase. A few times the app has said something isn’t available in store, so I go and research other styles, or even check out other stores. But then I go to the store and find exactly what I looked for in the first place, down to size, color, etc. (while the app still says it’s not there). I guess this is better than the other way around (i.e., the app saying something is in store but it’s not, which hasn’t happened to me yet), but it’s no less of a time waster. It would be great if this issue gets fixed.
