I love having access to news from multiple sources everyday and I use it a lot. The price point is great as it’s included in our Itunes membership. I find though that my husband gets a far better variety of political stories and world events than i do. I still get stories on wrinkle creams and recipes which drives me crazy. I would like to see the algorithm respond more to what I routinely click on. After all, I’ve been using News daily for more than a year now and it still insists that I should go back to the kitchen.

After a week on a free subscription trail I’ve had it with this app. Every article you read comes with ads that force you scroll forever. You cannot tell if you actually reading premium content. To top it off, you don’t even know if you are getting the full stories from the newspapers you follow in Australia.I live in Adelaide, my local stories are almost exclusively written by the Advertiser, the odd story or two may come from the ABC. The ABC, is of course a free platform. The problem with News corp papers like the Advertiser is, they don’t provide all articles to the News+ platform. So you are playing a lot of money, for about half the content. I have seen Melbournes the Age paper also do this within the app. At least in Melbourne and Sydney, there is so much press coverage, you can consume news for free and know everything that is happening around you locally. For Adelaide readers who feel like they know more about life in the Eastern states, either buy the Advertiser, or follow 7news at 6pm instead.News+ is a huge flop in Australia. Don’t pay for it.

I have used Apple News on and off for a while. It looks like it’ll be more off than on tho- unless I can get rid of this new SPORTS tab… taking up 25% of valid real estate at the bottom .. Like WHY??? First up … And 2nd why isn’t it easiiy customisable- click hold delete. I have been avoiding sport coverage, comentary, radio, tv, newspapers since 1992.. I turnoff the tv nightly news when they get up to the sport bit I turn of the radio like wise. Local abc radio is completely unlistenable on Saturday And now you do this to me!!!? You even automatically ADDED random sport favourites!! Deleting them all still didn’t delete the sport ap. Ehhh. Sport just makes me feel ill. Complete waste of time. I don’t want to waste ONE single second of my life on it. INCLUDING writting this!!! You’ve instantly ruined an ap I endured bc you already force it upon - I have paid for news+ several times prior. I was thinking about taking it up again.. but I absolutely will NOT until the sport thing tab is gone. Gross.

First of all, you need to distinguish between Apple News and Apple News+. News+, the magazine subscription service, is fine. It’s an OK selection of magazines, about as good as rivals. The non-subscription Apple News service, on the other hand, is abysmal and should be a source of profound embarrassment for Apple.It’s not so much a news aggregator as a mechanism for shoehorning as many intrusive, gigantic adverts as possible into editorial copy, in a way that makes it almost impossible to actually read anything.That I, and many others, pay a subscription and are still force to scroll past these ridiculous adverts is outrageous from a company that is literally worth trillions of dollars.I am very happy to pay for news. We should all pay for news. It’s an expensive business. But when you buy a newspaper the text isn’t interrupted every third sentence by a giant advert — so why should paying customers be treated so badly online?Does Apple need this additional income? No, of course it doesn’t. Why is it happy to do such harm to its own brand in pursuit of what, to a company of its size, is small change? I have no idea. But honestly, if it didn’t come bundled in a wider subscription, I would have cancelled this years ago, and I hardly ever use it.
