Asda made shopping in-store even easier with Scan & Go, now we’ve brought it straight to your own mobile.

With this app you can do the same as you can with our in-store scanners but straight from your own device. This means you don’t have to sign-in and pick up a scanner at the scanner wall, you can get straight into your shop and continue packing as you go, managing your budget and saving time at the self-checkout.

How does it work:
* Download the Scan & Go app to your device
* Register with your name, email and password…or sign in if you already have an account
* No need to collect a scanner in-store
* Scan items through the app as you put them straight in your trolley
* No need to un-pack and re-pack at the till
* Head to the self-checkouts to pay

Available at all Asda supermarkets and superstores

Takes twice as long

It really is awful. Not the apps fault but the logistics of doing your shopping with your phone in your hand is very annoying. The scanner sensitivity is next to nothing you have to hover the item underneath your phone for so long. It takes forever. It doesn’t keep track of multibuy offers very well at all. And then, as if the stress levels aren’t high enough you then have to queue up at a self service checkout to complete the shopping which always takes forever anyway. Selected for a random check and it didn’t alert the red light on the checkout so it was a long time until a colleague arrives, and then she has to scan 17 items. It was then another eternity for all the items to transfer onto the checkout.
It’s not quick enough, shopping the normal way and taking your items to the human being at the end of the shop is far more efficient. Normally I love scan as you shop but this was not a good experience at all. I won’t be using the app again!

Does what is says on the tin

The app is basically a hand scanner. As long as you have a good network connection you won’t have issues.
I believe 99% of ASDA superstores have the same layout of isles and product placement in isles. Why not allow for preselected products ( eg my shopping list) then use the app to guide round the store in the most efficient way . Perhaps even offering previous purchases that are on offer or similar type stuff. If ASDA would like this app to have a greater uptake they should guarantee 100% WIFI coverage in all shops to aid users with poor signal.
. With some tweaks and further development this app is 100% the way shopping will go as we move more and more into the digital world. Greater user experience required if you want more customers to use this because at present it has little added benefit in terms of time saved or info. Time for developers to sit down with the Asda board and push for forward thinking 21st century tech not blackberry messenger

Could be better

Set up was easy. Some products where a pain to try scan, those with smaller bar codes for example. The product locator didn’t work, it did tell me there was low stock on 1 of the 2 products I searched for but I wanted to know where it was, not stock levels. It couldn’t tell me where the other product was. Don’t try using the app before the stores opening time of the scan and go guns. I finished my shop then got to the scan and go machines and it was closed, a member of staff did open one for me, however i was selected for a quality check... no staff on duty knew how to do it so I then had to go to a manned till. Next time il just wait until 8am (the time scan and go opens in store) to do my shopping... it shouldn’t let you use the app in the store if the machines aren’t open and if the staff aren’t trained in doing a quality check. Ive never had any issues using their scan and go guns so I’ll stick to those I think.
