Description

What bin is it this week? If you live in South Oxfordshire or the Vale of White Horse, Binzone has the answer.

Does it go in the green bin or the grey bin? How do you recycle that broken hairdryer or those tatty old clothes? Once again, Binzone has the answer.

Often fails at its basic functions

Sometimes this works. Often it crashes, and usually this is around 6pm, presumably when everyone logs on to check which day it is.

Also I have notifications switched on for the app, but literally have never gotten a reminder to put out the bins. Not sure why. Surely that is the main use case for this app?

Super half baked app.

Useful little App

The app although basic is very useful reminding you which collection is due and also you can search the item/s you wish to dispose of and it will inform you if you can put these items out for normal collections. However, it remains to be seen if it will eventually be updated to advise of a change of collection day or delays due to breakdowns and bad weather and have an option to report missed bin collections as these would be extremely useful additions to an App which has great potential.

Doesn’t work

This app just presents a white screen with an occasional rotating wheel. I suspect it’s trying to pull data from South Oxfordshire & Vale’s dreadfully-performing waste collection websites, or more accurately the slow back-end services providing data for the websites and app (the app is essentially just a wrapper for web-enabled services) You’ve got to maintain this stuff if you make it, but too many projects like this are publish-and-forget. SODC/Vale would be better just to shut down the app if they’re not interested in maintenance, both to save themselves further embarrassment and stop wasting taxpayer money.
