What I’ve been waiting for!

I have love the Guardian’s recipe content for so long and it’s wonderful to have so many of the recipes I have admired in my pocket. Photography is beautiful and the cook along feature is really useful. I also really appreciate being able to filter my dietary preferences and being able to search by ingredient.

Not as comprehensive as I’d hoped

I am a great fan of the Guardian’s Feast supplement - in fact it’s one of the reasons I buy the Saturday Guardian. Feast is a fantastic food supplement with great contributors and truly original and inspirational recipes and I’d assumed that by buying into this new app, I’d be getting convenient access to all of the recipes I’ve kept hard copies of over the last 10 years or so. Sadly the recipes available via this app seem to have been massively paired down and so many of my favourite go to recipes such as Thomason’s Miers’ Venison Thai pad kra or Felicity Cloake’s chow mein masterclass aren’t in the app. Consequently I imagine I won’t keep it and so won’t be contributing a donation to the Guardian - something which I would very much like to do as it’s such a great independent newspaper 😕

There are currently over 1000 recipes available in the Feast app and new content is being added every week. The app includes content from Feast, the Observer magazine, Observer Food Monthly and the Guardian Saturday/Weekend magazine.

Poor user experience

Click on search and the search bar is hidden at the top of the page - you have to scroll to the top to find it and you have to know or play around with it to discover that! Why doesn’t the search box appear on top of or overlay your current screen?
You can’t get rid of the Apple keypad when in recipes so half the screen is consumed by the keyboard and the recipe effectively blocked.
It also looks to be missing an awful lot of content / recipes. Don’t throw away your paper editions of Feast just yet.
