Bluetooth & GPS problems

My Dash Cam 522GW wouldn’t pair with my phone even though my phone showed that it was connected. Still in the car, parked with the engine running, I then “Forgot this Network” on my phone and unpaired my phone on the dash cam, following the instructions the dash cam gave. The connection was very briefly connected then disappeared again, stating that pairing was unsuccessful. In the end I deleted the app off my phone and re-installed it, going through set up again. This worked, pairing up my phone again. I got to my destination, switched off the engine, thinking that the problem was solved. Getting back to the car to go home. Not 2 minutes later, a dash cam alert told me there was an error with the GPS..... I have only had this dash cam for 2 months,
so not very happy.

Hello,
Thanks for your review. On your iPhone, go into Settings- MyNextbase- Location- Ensure this is set to 'Always'. If you see 'Background Refresh Data' this must also be turned on.

If this doesn't work, we recommend contacting our Support Team to get your connection reset correctly. We're available on support@nextbase.com or 02920 866429 (UK).

Uncle Revie ,

I like the app ....

But it’s incredibly annoying because every time I get into my car it says that sos is not functioning and to open the app. What then starts it’s a long process of waiting for it to connect to my phone. When it dosent you spend more time going through the pairing process only to be told it has failed. It’s not ideal especially when you want to download clips. Otherwise I have to dismount the cam and attach it to my computer which is incredibly tedious. It just doesn’t work and it’s a shame because the app is very simple to use and understand but for some reason, iPhones do not like these dash cams.

The cams themselves are totally brilliant and can’t fault them but when paired with a very slow app it’s a let down :(

So fed up of the disconnects

This has got to be the most frustrating app I have ever used. What is the point of having a camera that can download to your phone when the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth can’t even load thumbnails of videos without losing connection. Download a video… loses connection and won’t re-find it.
And forget setting your camera to its highest definition. The files are so large there isn’t a chance in hell it will download it before it crashes.
My phone is literally 12 inch’s from the camera.
Camera is great but the app is not fit for purpose. One of these days I’ll need to download a vid in an emergency and can see running over the camera in announce.

Developer Response ,

Hello,
If the camera and app are repeatedly losing connection, I'd recommend a full reset.

Please follow this procedure closely and in the exact order as displayed. This is crucial for correct connection:

1) Turn on the Camera
2) Stop it recording (press the red button on the screen)
3) Go into 'Settings' (press the button in the top left of the screen)
4) Go into 'Setup'
5) Scroll across to 'Keep User Settings'
6) Turn OFF 'Keep User Settings'
7) Go back to 'Setup' settings
8) Scroll across to 'Default Settings'
9) Select 'YES'. The camera will now reboot.

10) On your phone, please uninstall the MyNextbase Connect app. Please be aware that this will delete any saved data currently stored on the app. If you have footage saved that you require, please upload it to the Nextbase Cloud and make a note of the codes then provided. You can then download the footage to your phone at a later date, or to a computer.

11) Go into your Bluetooth settings on the phone, then delete any connections you can see to NEXTBASE
12) Go into your Wi-Fi settings on the phone, then delete any connections you can see to NEXTBASE

13) Turn off the phone and the dash camera
14) Re-start the phone and the dash camera
15) Re-install the MyNextbase Connect app on the phone

16) Then on your iPhone, go into Settings- MyNextbase- Background Refresh Data- Ensure this is turned on. If you see 'Location' this must also be set to 'Always'.
Then go to your MyNextbase Connect app and click on the menu in the top left of the app home screen. Select App Settings and turn on ‘Enable Low Resolution Downloads'.

Once steps 1-16 have been followed precisely, please re-pair the phone and the Dash Cam as per the attached instructions.
