Connectivity problems

I have purchased a car which has a Nextbase 380 GWX wired into the car. I followed the instructions on this app to connect to the dash cam but a message told me that I needed to use Cam Viewer. I have tried several time to connect to the dash cam using Cam Viewer and the dash cam’s WiFi but nearly every time the spinning wheel on my iPhone SE 2020 keeps going around and around and eventually times out. On a couple of occasions I was asked for the password so when I entered the default password a message came up saying “you cannot use this at this time” or words to that effect. What do I do now? How can I input my car registration number to the Dash Cam? I can download videos to my iMac but I would like to download them to my phone sometimes. Please help.

Since posting the above review, I was contacted by Nextbase support who talked me through the set up procedures for Camviewer. All is now well and the app works fine.

Connection between app and cam very buggy

I’ve had Nextbase cameras in my last two cars. I’m afraid to say that, although the cameras themselves are fairly good, the app connectivity is simply awful. The connection between phone and camera works about 50% of the time and updating firmware or downloading footage is a game of chance. It’s far quicker to simply remove the camera or SD card and hook it up to your computer, 2010’s style.
I have almost given up on the hope of ever being able to update the firmware. It always seems to make the initial connection over Bluetooth just fine, but when it tries to establish a P2P WiFi network it simply fails with no useful error message. This has been the case over two different cameras and also two different phones and so I know it’s not specific to one particular device.
The app needs far better QC.

Painful

tl;dr Don’t buy a dashcam from Nextbase. None of their accompanying apps, required for effective use, is remotely functional.
This is a painful piece of software, connectivity with the 522GW is patchy and accessing files is virtually impossible. All OS, firmware and software are the most recent versions. The app loads. It eventually connects. But I have to wait so long for the files I want to access to become available ('Playback Failed. This file can not be played back at this time. Please download it to your phone and try again’) that the dash cam times out, shuts down and then you have to start the whole process again. The WiFi timing out is a regular occurrence and unrelated to app inactivity. The responsiveness of the user interface on the app is appalling. It is so slow/unresponsive as to be borderline useless.

Also, the 522GW has a habit of not recording, though the camera appears to be on, and also of shutting down randomly, maybe due to overheating. Avoid Nextbase and look elsewhere. I wish I’d read these reviews first - I’d have chosen a different brand.
