Pretty great

I have always found SFMTA web services hard to use in terms of tracking certain routes, and Apple Maps only shows specific options depending on outside factors. This is a great place to get updated time estimates for any alternate routes/lines you might want to take instead. It would be awesome if we could set a filter view of the routes such as northbound vs southbound routes at the top of the screen.

How to improve

Looking at a single line is only partly useful. Because often several lines may go from your particular location to an acceptable end point. For instance, if I am at mission and 16th and I want to go to mission and silver, there are 3 busses that would be useful. Yet I have to make an effort to see them individually. It would be useful to see all busses that stop at 16th & mission and then I can select the one I want. Most users who are SF residents have a working knowledge of the system. Having individual routes is great for reference if you’re going somewhere unfamiliar. But it is not the feature that most people use first. StuartS

Where are the frigging bus routes names??

Using some colors which, by the way, are not discernably referred to anywhere in the open page, it's not a way to make transit more accessible. It should not be a clues game.
I can not believe you have not thought of that, so, what is your logic behind leaving out the direct reference to the bus or metro trains line numbers/letters?

I am referring to the “Nearby” page. All one gets is a list with reference to the nearest stop, and the next arrivals to some end-of-line destination. There is no indicator of the bus line number, or letter, other than a color, which is meaningless if one is not familiar with those color codes.

Developer Response ,

Hi tjugifgbjgch, I’m not 100% what you mean since the route names are shown on the top half of the screen and toggling any one of them on or off will show you where it’s path runs on the map. If you mean why the route name isn’t shown on the actual map, it’s mainly as a way of reducing clutter (since the map is already a bit cluttered with all the stops to begin with). I’m always trying to make my apps more accessible for people so if this is a change you’d find useful, I’d be happy to look into making it possible. You can also use the in-app support button if you have more suggestions for things you’d like to see. -Alex

EDIT: Ah, I get what you mean now! I’m going to look into adding the actual route names to the list of stops instead of just the colors. That’s a great idea, can’t believe no one’s pointed that out yet. I’ll update you once it’s been added in the app. Thanks for the suggestion!
