Ratings and Reviews
The old version was better
Toyota really downgraded the app with the new “redesigned” version. The app works about 85% of the time and has definitely improved over the last year. It is nice having information about your vehicle available to you whenever you want. When it works of course. What I’m a little irritated with is that they really watered down the new version. For instance in the old app interface it would tell you whether the trunk/hatch was open or closed. The new version doesn’t. It just tells you the status of your doors and windows very generically. Yet I’m still paying $80 a year for an app that they removed features from. If you are going to remove features that we pay a fee for, lower the subscription fee. Not very happy Toyota.
Update: The update improved the app a little. PLEASE re-add the ability to see the status of the hood/trunk like it was in the old app. That is still missing from the updated app. I liked being able to see whether my hood/trunk was open or closed.

Waste of Time
The updated version of the app is a waste of time and space. The home screen that I have does not match the home screen in the tutorial or what is shown here on the App Store. The only thing I can see is my tire pressure is OK and my engine is OK-it also looks like I need to schedule maintenance and gives the impression of being overdue when that is not the case. There’s nothing anywhere in this app that shows me if my doors are locked, if the hatch is open, if the engine is running. I feel like these are all things that showed up in the previous version. I don’t look at it regularly because I really don’t have a need to, however tonight, my daughter accidentally locked the key in the car (how is that even possible??) I remember the dealer saying we could unlock it remotely using the app. Nope! There’s nothing even showing that the car is locked let alone an option to unlock.
Aside from all that, I set up the app on my phone initially because I picked up the car from the dealer. My husband download it and tried to create an account. Nope. So then he tried to login using my credentials. Nope. Apparently you can only have it on one device so if your significant other wants to be involved, you’re out of luck.
With the update this app is basically useless. I’d already been avoiding using it due to the built-in ads and constant use of location draining the battery. The only reason I hadn’t deleted the app from my phone was the battery charge indicator. It was a little sketchy before but at least you could tell if you were looking at the current state of charge and could trigger a fetch of current data if not. Now I can’t tell if the information is current and I can’t trigger an update.
Right now for instance the app indicates my car is charging but the car is actually sitting in the driveway unplugged. There is no indication of when the data presented was last updated but I know the last time it was plugged in was yesterday at work so it has to be at least 16 or so hours since the app has updated its info. This also means the level of charge indicated is way off since some of the charge would have been used up on the drive home. In the past I could manually request the app to update its info but the latest version seems to have dropped that feature.
