I decided to download Surveyor to see if I could easily help map roads around me to improve Apple Maps.On startup, the app only displays a screen showing “To start using Surveyor, first open the partner app and choose a task” with an “open partner app” button below.The required partner app is Premise (you can find it on the App Store) and it has lots of recent negative reviews along with an abysmal privacy policy (essentially, “we will watch everything you do while the app is running”).I would use Surveyor if it wasn’t tied to a dodgy partner app and instead could work standalone, or maybe with a more “Apple-aligned” partner app!

I live in a small village more than 60 miles from any actual city. There are countless mistakes in Apple Maps here that I have been fighting for years to have fixed. I’ve been wanting a way to easily fix these mistakes for quite a while. I was extremely excited when I read about this app and promptly downloaded it. Imagine my dismay when the only thing it does is prompt me to download and open a “partner app”. This “partner app” collects all kinds of personal information and tells me to drive 60 miles to the closest city and 102 miles to the next city and write about furniture stores. Do better, Apple. This is ridiculous.

This app is great in concept and I was excited to see it released. However, the partner app which is required does not meet the privacy standards I would expect for something required to use Apple software.
