Powered by Apple Intelligence, the new Writing Tools in iOS 18.1 help you find just the right word virtually everywhere you write on iPhone. They’re available systemwide across all kinds of apps, ready to refine, proofread, and summarize.

To access them, select any text and tap Writing Tools in the menu that appears. Here are a few ways to use them in your favorite apps.

Before you hit send on that teamwide email, use Writing Tools to give your message just the right tone: Tap Professional, Friendly, or Concise to see a suggested revision. If it’s not quite right, tap the button again to see another.

Don’t let typos or grammatical mistakes sneak into your glowing book review or thoughtful film critique. Before you share, select the text you want to check and tap Proofread. Any mistakes will be underlined and replaced with a suggested fix.

Want to condense your magnum opus into an elevator pitch or add a top-line summary to your blog post? Writing Tools can help. Tap Summary for a written-through recap, or select Key Points for a bulleted list of top takeaways.

With the List feature, turn sprawling lecture notes into organized, study-ready bullet points. Or tap Table to see key data presented in neat rows and columns.

Apple Intelligence features are available in beta as part of iOS 18.1 on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with device and Siri language set to U.S. English.
