Getting started
Simply download the app using data (charges apply for the initial download), but once you’re set-up, there are no data charges when using the app. As long as you have a connection, your banking is ready to go!
Transactional features are available to Standard Bank accounts held in South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Malawi, eSwatini and Namibia. Keep in mind that some types of payments include transaction fees.

Hi,I rely on the built-in screen reader, VoiceOver, to navigate and use the application.I am writing to report a critical accessibility barrier on a key feature of the app that makes it unusable for me.Details of the Issue: * Device: iPhone iPhone 14 * iOS Version: iOS 18.1. * App Version: The latest version. * Accessibility Feature Used: VoiceOverThe Error: * I log into the Standard Bank App successfully. * I select one of my accounts from the main dashboard to view its details. * On the next screen (where options like "Account Details," "Statements," "Stop Card,"., are typically located), VoiceOver fails to read the proper labels. * Instead of announcing the actual function, VoiceOver repeatedly announces the generic, unhelpful phrase: "Touch Area" for every single selectable option in that section.Impact:Because all the critical options (like obtaining a statement, viewing full account numbers, or managing the account) are unlabeled, this section of the app is completely inaccessible and unusable to me and other customers who are blind or visually impaired.I kindly request that your development team immediately investigate this issue and ensure that proper Accessibility Labels (VoiceOver labels) are implemented for all interactive elements in this specific screen in the next app update.Thanks

Predatory data and privacy practices. I was deceptively signed up in the app for “trust calls” without ever explicitly allowing this, in a way I found to be very deceptive, which apparently allows Standard Bank to monitor my calls, and there is no intuitive way to undo this in the app, I am FORCED to create a digiME profile before being able to access basic services and link my phone, which I have already signed into, to my account, answering several security questions, they still require me to creat a digital ID to send MYSELF my OWN money!! (I notice this has been addressed in the app but I still find this absolutely egregious — you’re a banking app, and you have to attain a higher standard than “ooops”) Absolutely unacceptable breaches of trust and privacy. This update is half-baked with several bugs I picked up immediately. I didn’t even mention the “info update” form which asks me to list the most influential person I know. Are you kidding? What is the possible rational for attempting to ascertain this information? If you don’t know any better you would think this update was intended not to create a better user experience but to erode your privacy. I didn’t even mention the gps info it was bugging me for. What is going on at Standard Bank? Bank elsewhere. I intend to.

Marketing messages

There seem to be no way to keep the stench of marketing from taking over critical apps such as banking apps, which provide a service I am paying a lot for. The marketing messages can also not be deleted at all and seem to stay in the messages popup forever. It is useful that its possible to disable Notifications for them, but it looks like the only way to not to constantly be annoyed by messages and nonsense is to disable notifications on the app Completely. That is becoming difficult, because now std bank charges additional fees for transaction notification smsses. Which leaves the user with only 2 affordable options: disable app notifications in order not to be spammed - which makes noticing thefts on your account impossible, or enable it and keep the feeling of a sleezy app that keeps wanting to “connect” with people. All I want is a basic banking app. I pay a lot of money to the bank every month. Stop trying to force unwanted and unneeded and Ignored communications down our throats. Use twitter if you think there are people that want to stay “connected” to their banks’ irrelevant news. I want to make payments, I do not want to read which rugby team you support.

STILL Not fully functional

Below is my original review. Unfortunately NOTHING improved since I last wrote about it. I’ve been to two branches and phoned the call centre. Nobody could tell me why the savings account opening function doesn’t work. The information about the account is still incomplete- only interest “up to” and minimum investment. Standard bank used to be the best for electronic banking and banking in general; 30 years ago was the most modern. Since it’s run by the Chinese it steadily deteriorates in customer services who are treated increasingly arrogantly by more and more incompetent staff. The app is good for simple operations like transfer and payments. Claims to provide account opening facility but it does not work. Information appears “please visit a branch” - not very helpful especially that interest offered is higher when the account is opened via the app. The information about savings accounts in incomplete. Stating the interest “up to ...” is particularly misleading as this limit is offered at higher investment value and longer saving period. Sketchy information on capitalising and effects of premature withdrawal. As usual - half-done job.
