You’ll need some data to download the app for the first time, but data charges no longer apply when using the SA app itself. If you have a connection, you can do your banking!
Transactional features are available to Standard Bank accounts held in South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland and Namibia. Keep in mind that some types of payments include transaction fees.

App is on the fritz
I don’t know what I would do without this app which makes what is happening to it such a shame.
I tried logging in to the app only to be told that the logging in process has changed.
I use an iPhone 6 so I log in using the fingerprint scanner so I don’t know why that would change. Anyway I follow the steps and input my card number and pin. Just my luck the app is giving me an error message and I can’t login!!
I hope they fix this soon (seeing that it’s month end and people have a lot of banking to do) or revert to the way things were before the change.
STILL Not fully functional
Below is my original review. Unfortunately NOTHING improved since I last wrote about it. I’ve been to two branches and phoned the call centre. Nobody could tell me why the savings account opening function doesn’t work. The information about the account is still incomplete- only interest “up to” and minimum investment. Standard bank used to be the best for electronic banking and banking in general; 30 years ago was the most modern. Since it’s run by the Chinese it steadily deteriorates in customer services who are treated increasingly arrogantly by more and more incompetent staff.
The app is good for simple operations like transfer and payments. Claims to provide account opening facility but it does not work. Information appears “please visit a branch” - not very helpful especially that interest offered is higher when the account is opened via the app. The information about savings accounts in incomplete. Stating the interest “up to ...” is particularly misleading as this limit is offered at higher investment value and longer saving period. Sketchy information on capitalising and effects of premature withdrawal. As usual - half-done job.

This App really does keep Moving Forward
Every time I bother to actually delve a bit deeper into this app I realize the wealth of information available about everything banking, and how easy it is to change settings such as withdrawal limits, open a savings account etc! It’s one of the simplest apps to navigate and making payments has become dead easy which I really appreciate. One thing I find difficult is finding POPs after the fact, and being able to then directly email someone a POP from the app. Am I missing something? Thanks Standard Bank IT people for doing such a great job. Susi
