Getting started

You’ll need some data to download the app for the first time, but data charges no longer apply when using the SA app itself. If you have a connection, you can do your banking!

Transactional features are available to Standard Bank accounts held in South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland and Namibia. Keep in mind that some types of payments include transaction fees.
Note that some features may not be available in your region.

Excellent app! I am really surprised Standard Bank😁

Was not a fan of banking apps I preferred the normal web internet interface via laptop or desktop. Main reason, security concern...what if l loose my phone, would it not be easy for someone to access my profile and transact...that was my thinking.

In any case, I got convinced by Standard Bank staff to try it out, my first time, some time in 2021 i did it.

The app version at the time was a disaster, the app did not work as it should, kept asking for upgrade or some file. Gave up on it.

Until recently, I gave it another try.

Low and behold, must give credit where credit is due...its not only working...the app is superb. It is simple, yet provide for all the necessities. The interface and how it is layout is excellent, makes it quite easy for the client to navigate.

Transacting on it, is a breeze.

It also has a few add-on options.

Viewing your accounts (those that are linked) is quick and easy.

You can switch between profiles

You can add new accounts

All in all, the app is quite easy to work with, interface is superb, its intuitive, provides for options to add new accounts, basically it has all the banking necessities you require.

Voiceover on IPhone

I have banked with Standard Bank all my life and love the mobile app on my IPhone and seldom use the website.
I have lost most of my sight and am now very dependant on the wonderful Voiceover facility provided by Apple. I know of at least 2 meetings the sight challenged community have had with the developers to ensure Voiceover compliance. I myself have reported that the app does not work for some functions such as ‘Buy’.
With every new release the app seems too break more of the functionality. The latest change is the transact option which shows 3 buttons but Voiceover is unable to select any of them. Please can you include Voiceover into your test scripts rather than ignoring the issue. I am sure the blind community would be happy to offer their services in this regard as would I. Rather make this small effort than force people with little or no sight to another bank.
There is so much talk these days in IT about knowing and caring for the client but mostly it seems to be just words and no action. About a year ago I participated in a time consuming phone survey commissioned by the bank where I raised the Voiceover issue as a priority. Obviously also ignored.
As a previous financial It applications designer and developer I see the Voiceover issue as a result of a lack of attention to detail and sloppy programming and testing. Fixing it would take very little effort, just a tiny bit of focus and care.

STILL Not fully functional

Below is my original review. Unfortunately NOTHING improved since I last wrote about it. I’ve been to two branches and phoned the call centre. Nobody could tell me why the savings account opening function doesn’t work. The information about the account is still incomplete- only interest “up to” and minimum investment. Standard bank used to be the best for electronic banking and banking in general; 30 years ago was the most modern. Since it’s run by the Chinese it steadily deteriorates in customer services who are treated increasingly arrogantly by more and more incompetent staff.

The app is good for simple operations like transfer and payments. Claims to provide account opening facility but it does not work. Information appears “please visit a branch” - not very helpful especially that interest offered is higher when the account is opened via the app. The information about savings accounts in incomplete. Stating the interest “up to ...” is particularly misleading as this limit is offered at higher investment value and longer saving period. Sketchy information on capitalising and effects of premature withdrawal. As usual - half-done job.
