FaceTime 4+

This is going to be a quick review because I have to say overall I love this app on my iPhone 13. I’ve taken to writing reviews on Apple’s apps lately in hopes they’ve got team reading these to find user-reported problems and make them better, so I’m going to get right into the two issues holding me back from giving 5 stars. #1: The iOS 15 update made it so that when you’re on a call, the settings menu and “FaceTime photo” buttons disappear after a few seconds. In order to bring them back you gotta tap the screen and they show back up, then go away a few seconds after you last touched them. This is kinda annoying, but I think it could be fixed by adding an option already implemented in Zoom: an “always show toolbar” toggle. Then for those of us who are constantly having to, for example, mute/unmute ourselves, those buttons would always be right there for us without having to tap the screen. And next, #2: the connection quality drops significantly when more than about 8 people are on one call - constant freezing and stuttering, particularly with video quality but sometimes audio. I get that with lots of ppl it probably uses a lot more bandwidth or something, but I for one have an excellent Wi-Fi network (>420 mbps speeds) and use Verizon 5G network… there’s no way it’s my internet. Anyway I just hope you appreciate my honest feedback, and if these issues could be fixed I won’t hesitate to throw in that extra star.

I absolutely love FaceTime. From the video to the audio, everything works smoothly and stays connected better than any other video chat. With that said…

Before iOS 15, you can tap the screen to bring up the audio option menu, and if you tap mute then tap mute again to unmute, the menu as well as the button to take live or still photos from the other person’s phone would stay on the screen. Well, now with the iOS 15 update, the button and menu disappears after a few seconds forcing you to tap the screen to bring up the menu and button briefly.

I coparent with my ex and I’m on FaceTime with my son every single day. He started soccer this year and I would capture goals he would score with live shots and can always count on that button being up because it didn't disappear with iOS 14. Now, the button disappears with iOS 15 and it always manages to disappear at the wrong time. I missed a lot of goals. I managed to catch a few but your timing has to be impeccable, and with soccer games, things are just unpredictable.

Can you bring back a way to at least give us the option to leave the picture button up. And while we are at it, maybe move that menu down to where your thumb would be rather than having it at the top of the screen and making it unmovable. Thank you
