Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profit organisations and anyone with a personal Google account. Classroom makes it easy for learners and instructors to connect – inside and outside of schools. Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate and stay organised.
Classroom is designed to help teachers create, collect and mark assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features such as the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organised.
Students can keep track of what’s due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and marks directly in Classroom.
With the mobile app for iOS, students and teachers can view their classes and communicate with their classmates in real time. Students can open their assignments and work on them directly using their iPhone or iPad. Teachers can keep track of who has turned in work and mark the assignment – at school or on the go. Students and teachers receive notifications when they have new content in Classroom, so they are always up to date.
There are many benefits of using Classroom:
Easy to set up
Teachers can add students directly or share a code with their class to join. It takes just minutes to set up.
The simple, paperless assignment workflow allows teachers to create, review and mark assignments quickly, all in one place.
Students can see all of their assignments on an assignments page, while all class materials (e.g. documents, photos and videos) are automatically filed into folders in Google Drive.
Classroom allows teachers to send announcements and start class discussions instantly. Students can share resources with one another or provide answers to questions on the stream.
Affordable and secure
Like the rest of G Suite for Education services, Classroom contains no ads, never uses your content or student data for advertising purposes, and is free.

Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic way to communicate with the class, ask questions and flip the classroom. I just started this year and mainly use it to flip and get students to get ready for the lessons. With just a simple question, students can focus their attention, share ideas with other classmates and be ready and full of ideas for the lesson. It’s great for sharing resources and ideas. Next term is all about the collaborative tools.
One drawback with its success is that the students may have a lot of clubs societies and classes, so messages may come in too think and fast.
Do students have a clearly organised jobs list generated in gclass?
Very good for assessment & homework
This is a very good resource to use for teachers as it is easy to set key assessments and allows students to use the templates (as long as you set them to have a copy). Also, the fact that you can mark online (we use iPads) makes it a lot easier than taking bags full of marking home...
A few things that I would like to see, bring back topics for the stream, I like to provide my students with resources, both college and online as well as articles and reading lists, now, they seem to get lost in the endless stream.
One more, is the ability to add stamps, being able to add ‘Bitmoji’ stickers and/or similar to work when marking will give the students something a bit more engaging when reading feedback.
Beneficial for teachers
It is beneficial for teachers to see the amount of people that have handed in the assignment and for those who have not so it can seewhere everybody stands but not only that for us students it can remind us of the homework that we need to do just for those who are forgetful and not only that but it tells us when it is due in the assignments. So really its a good app where teachers provide us homework set reminders especially for when the assignments are due in.
