It’s a great app but…

…it needs more development. The app is beautifully designed and the simplicity of the writing experience is what drew me to it in the first place. I’ve only just recently started journaling again and before I used Day One, which despite having more features and functionality (something Apple needs here), I hate to use because of its layout and design. Typical of Apple, the app and user experience is beautiful. However, it lacks key features. For example, the ability to search and catalogue your own entries; functionality on Mac and iPad; the ability to add music of your choice; the ability to record the number of entries and perhaps a streak counter for the amount of consecutive days with an entry; as well as the ability to share or export an entry to other apps or contacts. Of course the app is in the early days of development and I have every confidence Apple will improve it with time, it would just be nice to see some of these features.

A clean app, but maybe a little too clean.

This is a beautifully clean design for a journal, but coming from ‘Day One’ this all feels more like a notes app without the functionality. Obviously we’re in early days and I expect Apple will add more.

I’d like to see features such as ‘on this day’ to show past entries, it’s a feature I adore on other apps as a way to reflect, remember and reminisce over. I’d also maybe love to attach more content as it seems to tap out at 14 things, so if I wanted to attach my location, I can only then attach 13 photos of my time.

I would love to have somewhere that tells me how many entries I have, maybe even a streak in the health app as this is one thing I love from other apps. I currently have over 2770 entries in my other journal with a streak of 1,440 days. I’ll be porting over these each day for a year to complete my transition, so please Apple add these features. Give us a reason to love journaling.

Useful to use

Useful to use but feel it could still do with being improved a bit more so that there are more general journal entry prompts included apart from being mainly based on certain content stored on device, such as ones to do with reflecting on current day, ones to do with decision making, ones to do with dreams could remember having, ones relating to different periods throughout life and even individuals (family/friends) who could have been having an impact, ones to do with gratitude, ones for exploring memories, ones to do with managing emotions, ones to do with relationships with others as well as possibly being able to categorise journal entries or even entire journal(s).
