I was recently introduced to the Google Duo app by one of my relatives. I was quite cynical about its effectiveness and the quality of the calls compared to WhatsApp. And you know what, although I still make good use of WhatsApp and its features, I’m really impressed with the HD (High Definition) Call Quality, as well as the Video Quality WHEN I’m using the Google Duo App. Although, It did take me a short while to get used to HOW to use the Google Duo App, one of the things I love about it is that you can install it and use it on ALMOST any platform: iPhone, iPad, Windows Computers etc.
Was great till it wasn’t

I use this daily, usually my daughter & granddaughters give each other a 👋 before we call - can’t anymore that’s disappeared along with the “call soon” and other little bits you could click prior to calling. During calls used to have a little notepad to draw on which my granddaughters liked to draw pictures on for me whilst we chatted - again gone. If I call my daughter it asks her to join as a “meeting” not as a “video call” like it used to. Have tried to delete and reinstall etc nothing works. I don’t mind change but only when it is for the better and preferably if their is some advance notification/explanation of changes, this all seems to have been done at the detriment of the app. I hope this is a temporary thing as I would hate to have to go elsewhere for calls as this has long been our chosen app. There are probably other things as well but these are the ones that we used a lot, did send a submit feedback a while back but no response. 😔
Would not recommend

So I have been on this app for a while and calling my friends since that is the only way I can communicate with them and whenever I create an account it either kicks me off or doesn’t show ANY of my contacts when I log back on. And yet it still says all bugs fixed. Secondly, I don’t know if it is just iOS but I’m always seeing my friend sharing her screen on tablet but I don’t have that button so I think it is another one of the bugs. Back to the kicking me out section, I deleted it because it wouldn’t show my contacts TWO times already and re-downloaded it, it worked the first time but now it won’t let me download the app, I’ve tried to but I just can’t and I’ve tested other apps to see if it was just this one or not and they all worked so please fix these bugs.
Another poor quality Google product

I was forced to install this when I had to leave my desk during a meeting. Why not just let me use a private browser window like in Safari on my Mac? Then found I was only getting 50% of the audio before being disconnected after five minutes, in an area where both Slack and FaceTime have no trouble. After eventually reconnecting and turning off the incoming shared screen, the connection held. But then later, no obvious way to turn the shared screen back on so I could attempt to see what was being discussed. Typical poor quality UI from Google and sub standard product in general compared with competitors, including even MS Teams! Probably gathered a bunch of information about me and my device in the process as Google takes as much data as possible at any opportunity.
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
