It works, it’s fine

I am very happy with the content available on NowTV, which is why I signed up in the first place. The design for the app is not the most user friendly for several reasons. The fast forward/rewind function on the TV is not easy to use, you have to choose a speed at which to fast forward and it’s hard to know if you’re in the right place. It would be so much easier if you could select where you are and move it backwards and forwards with a preview screen instead of guessing. I have never been able to get NowTV to cast to my TV, despite being able to on all other streaming services. On the iPhone app, the downloads aren’t just readily available on your home screen, which they should be. When you are downloading episodes, they don’t continue to download unless the app is open. So you have to sit there and watch them download, and make sure your phone doesn’t lock halfway through. When you go to downloads, they appear in a random order, they should be sorted chronologically instead of just randomly jumbled up. When you want to download new episodes, there should be a “more episodes” option underneath your downloaded episodes, like there is on netflix. Instead you have to manually search for the tv show and find the correct place. When you’re dealing with something which has 19 seasons, stuff like this starts to get really irritating. Like I said, it’s fine, it works, but the app is not very well designed.

Great app, poor design choices

So content is great. But I have several issues with whoever designed the UI. However the biggest issue is for some unbeknownst reason NowTv think it’s acceptable to charge me the most for a streaming service and then give me unskippable ads. Not 3rd party ads. Their own 30s long ads. That feels like a real middle finger, making me pay to get ads for shows I’m paying for.

Now the UI issues. 1). On PS5 the app often starts at the beginning of the show. 2). In the resume watching section, I can’t select the show and change the episode, I have to search for it. 3) the episode description cuts off. No way of reading the full description. 4). The resume watching section will sometimes just disappear. 5). The series episodes won’t load sometimes, unless you come out of the search and back in. They’re my Top 5 most annoying.

Overall, great app. The small annoying UI issues are one thing, but I’m particularly annoyed to be paying money for unskippable ads, hence the score. Happy to change it after NowTv decide charging me over £300 a year merits me knowing if I actually wanna watch their show or if I’m enjoying the one I specifically clicked on to watch instead.

Awful app, service and quality.

Why on earth, when the app is connected to a Chromecast, did they think it was a good idea to disable the rewind function (eg click to rewind/fast forward 10s) and leave you with the tiniest scrub bar that doesn’t even show you what time you’ve actually scrubbed to? So when using an iPhone, you have to just guess when to let go of the scrub bar when your are rewinding/fast forwarding, meaning that you end up minutes away from where you wanted to be as opposed to seconds! Also, why is the Chromecast considered its own device? The device system in NowTv is already hellish with its “wait a month before you can change your devices” policy which is immensely silly, but with having the Chromecasts as a device you lose multiple valuable slots for usable devices. I have multiple Chromecasts which means I can’t watch NowTv on my devices, but I can cast from them... It’s mind boggling daft. Then there’s streaming quality, endless drop offs in quality resulting in some of the worst streaming experiences I’ve ever had. I use essentially all of the major streaming services, and none of them come close to the issues I have had with NowTv. Now they also want to charge you to have 1080HD?! I understand that this may sound like first world issues but this is 2021 not 2005. They’re Windows App is equally awful. If it wasn’t for the quality of their content I wouldn’t still be a member... It’s about the only thing they do well.
