I quite like the change from the PCCU app. But some things could change I bank with a few institutions and there some things that their apps do that are better1. I wish I could re order my accounts. 2. I wish that I could choose to switch between dark and light mode in the app. Prefer to have my phone on dark mode but I like the app better in light mode. 3. Why can’t I name my loan accounts. I can give all my accounts a nickname but not the loans?4. Card details, I’ve securely logged in why can’t I see my card number etc in the app like other banks do. Frustrating when I’m in bed or on the couch and I need those details so I have to get up to find the physical card. 5. Generate statements or balances in PFD format. 6. Why can’t I open offset accounts in the app or switch the loans they’re linked to? Would be a cool feature. It’s early days I understand but I imagine you have a lot of things planned so please have my list of ideas for free :)

This app presents like some sort of template banking app that hasn’t been reviewed by a human and hasn’t taken user experience into any sort of consideration. It’s like absolute bare-minimum functionality: accounts, transfers, card management. That’s literally it. C’mon now, no account order customisation?? Really?? The best you can do is turn accounts on and off for your Home Page view, but hilariously, if you click “View All” from your Home Page, it only shows those accounts you’ve got switched on…. Have the people in the company who made this app ever used internet banking themselves? Have they ever bothered to look at what other banks are doing? Did they even look at what PCCU used to do? One good thing, at least it’s gotten as far as catching up with what the other banks have been doing for years now and you can lock your cards, whereas the PCCU app didn’t have that function. The “upgrades” that are being promised should already be standard functions, and the fact that they are standard functions with other banks apps does beg the question: when??

With such a huge change, People First Bank have not done well to make the transition easy. It seems they’ve pulled an app “off the shelf”, added their own logo and colours and have put minimal thought into the actual functionality and usability. Some initial criticisms that make it hard to use and harder to transition to: • You can’t reorder accounts. • If you favourite an account, the Home Screen shows the available balance but the accounts screen shows the current balance, which is very confusing.• There are no daily/running balance totals like the PCCU app had. • Minimal settings hidden behind a name-tap instead of in the menu.• No control over 2FA. • Dark mode is not great and there’s no setting to turn it off (it does whatever your device does).• Transaction descriptions are all in CAPS case which is hard to read and overwhelming. • Transaction descriptions get truncated instead of wrapped.• Transactions use an icon to show incoming or outgoing line items that is not intuitive.• Saved contacts load don’t load properly (there are missing contacts)• Account balances don’t update as soon as you transfer money out, even though the transactions list show the transactionI hope there’s a roadmap to fix this fast because this is barely a minimum viable product. It’s a backwards step from the PCCU app, in terms of functionality and usability. I am seriously considering moving to a different bank.

I’m still getting used to the app but I wish that I could initiate transfers from within an account, instead of having to navigate to a different screen. I also want to see the descriptions of my transfers between accounts without having to click on them so I can easily scroll through and balance my spendings. Another minor improvement would be being able to change the order of my accounts on the screen, because alphabetical order doesn’t fit the way I use my accounts. The app is as fast and functional as the PCCU app was, so aside from those ease of use things, I’m satisfied with it. I hope the dev team will take on the feedback from me and others to keep improving the flow and function of the app in these early stages.
